`fraid not. It actually states on the car parking board `Blue badges must be displayed. Failure to do so will incur fine` (or words to that effect.) Car parking companies are huge money making machines who have all ends covered and they have no sympathy with anyone.0

Try writing to the address on the back of the ticket with an explanation, they may refund you.
My wife got a fine for not displaying the parking ticket-it had fallen off the windscreen-I wrote and they cancelled the charge.
Always worth a try.0 -

Will take note of this & hopefully always remember to display mine!
Its awful that you can be fined for forgetting to display, but those who park where they are not entitled to get away scott free.Ebay~ A wretched hive of scum and villainy.0 -
If you have a blue badge and it slips out of sight or you forget to display it and you incur a parking ticket from a local authority they will often withdraw the fine if you write a very apologetic, humble, grovelling letter explaining the circumstances and promising faithfully never to do it again.0

I'm pretty sure due to Scottish law that things like clamping and private parking tickets are illegal. It's allowed in England but not Scotland.
The courts regard it as extortion and I doubt very much they would be able to find out any information from the DVLA due to data protection laws.0 -
cosyc wrote:On Friday my husband popped to Asda to get some cash out of the mini bank. As it was raining he parked nearest the machine in a disabled bay (I know he shouldn't have done this, but it was raining and car park was not mega busy). When he returned to his car it had a parking ticket on.
At first he thought it was a joke, so when he got back to work rang Asda who said it nothing to do with them, the car park is run by a private company and they have notices up with there terms on.
So they (Town and City Parking Ltd based in Scotland) issued a civil penalty notice demanding £20 payable within 10 days or becomes £40 after. It states - failure to respond will lead to civil action being taken for penalty and judicial expenses occurered. All verythreatening.
So is this legal or just a con to try to obtain money from us and other like us?
How will they find out who we are from the registration number would DVLA disclose this to a private company.
Any one come across this before?
TOUGH! You shouldnt park in disabled spaces.Stevie Coppell's record breaking blue and white royal army - championship winners 2005-60 -
Following up from my earlier post, I actually spoke to the staff in Tescos where I regularly see the parking bays (disabled and parent/child) being blatantly used by drivers who are not entitled to. On this particular day I had also seen at least 8 cars parked on hashed areas, and lost count of those parked on double yellow lines....and that was just while walking to the doors from my car !! One woman was parked right outside the front doors in a hashed zone loading her car up as I spoke to the staff. She was not 20 meters away, with security staff and sa with clear sight of her.
The stores answer to why they do not enforce the clear markings they have painted.....the land is owned by the council, and they (Tescos) are not allowed to take any action against anyone who parks in a wrong bay, or on double yellow lines
So in answer to morveryn comments re why I should have to park miles away....According to Tesco and the local council I don't have to. I apparently am quite entitled to park where-ever I want - disabled space or double yellow lines. But of course I won't, 'cos I'm not that type of person.:)
I wonder what the legal/insurance implication is WHEN an accident does happen as a result of dangerous parking. Surely Tesco and/or the council should bear some responsibility for not policing/enforcing safety on the site.
PS) I used to work with a woman who displayed a disabled badge in her car, as she took her mother shopping etc. But she had it in her car permanently, and never had to run the gauntlet of the traffic wardens, or pay for parking.:cool:0 -
We once displayed our badge the wrong way round (photo side up).
We managed to incur a £60.00 fine.
I wrote to the Council and managed to get the fine waivered, with a promise that I wouldn't do it again !!

There are very few disabled parking areas that can be enforced which makes you wonder what the point is of having different types of parking bays!
Our Morrisons sounds nearly as bad as your Tescos. They also have a large hashed area to stop people parking right outside the shop & blocking the way out of the car park - it doesn't work, some people still park there & block everything up. It must be infuriating for these shops that an inconsiderate minority continue to cause dangerous situations. No doubt it would be the shop that would be liable if an accident occured.
RE: The woman who kept the badge permanently in her car- was it for her mum? She should not have been using the badge without her in the car. This is the problem, not many badges are ever checked so sadly abuse is widespread. That said, I parked in a bay in town at the weekend & as I was getting out of the car a police officer & traffic warden who were walking up the street asked if they could see my badge, which I happily showed them & they told me that they are trying to clamp down on badge abuse & they were aware of several stolen badges in the area. So, good to see this is being done:TEbay~ A wretched hive of scum and villainy.0
