Monarch Airlines - how safe ??
Comments

Monarch are a good airline, they have been around for a long time and if they were carp then I am sure that the CAA would never have recruited them to do the mercy flights for the XL passengers.
It's not just Monarch that are doing the rescue flights. The CAA are paying a number of british airlines to do rescue flights.
I am aware that the CAA are using a number of british airlines to repatriate stranded holidaymakers but this chat is about Monarch which is why I only mentioned Monarch and not the other airlines.0 -
In regards to mr smart price: I cant help but feel thats a little harsh. Would you really have a good old chuckle at the expense of lots of people who might have ruined holidays thay had been planning for months? Not really a laughing matter is it? Or have i missed something?0

I have to say that I agree.
People pay their money and take their choice. I took return flights with Monarch last Christmas as part of a package holiday to Luxor and was perfectly happy with the price I paid for the holiday and service that I received.
I, for one, am not fussed about enduring a bit of an uncomfortable flight if it means I am able to afford a lovely holiday for less than it would cost me to fly with other carriers.
I hope that in this difficult climate, Monarch are able to continue in business and prosper.0 -
BTW Monarch operate charter flights with flight numbers MONxxxx, and scheduled flights with flight numbers ZBxxxx. So scheduled airline failure insurance won't cover MONxxxx flights.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Air Europe went under as part of the International Leisure Group (ILG) collapse in 1991.It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -

The baggage handlers wrecked the bags. They are not Monarch staff. Therefore Monarch didnt destroy the suitcase :cool:0 -
Have to say I avoid Monarch at all costs would rather pay slightly more for another charter. They are the most cramped uncomfortable planes ever and I am under 5'2"! We have had to use them on a few skiing holidays which fortunately are only shortish flights. On the outbound journey the plane was very dirty my son was put into a seat next to a pile of sick that had not been cleaned at all well, despite complaining the crew did nothing yet the stench was horrendous, you could visibly see it on the carpetNo Matter what you do there will be critics.0

My experience of the cabin crew exactly. They treated people like schoolkids and were totally dismissive. The company replied to my letter saying in effect that they couldn't give a monkey's what the staff were like, they had an airline to run. I have done as they suggested and found superior airlines to travel with.:rolleyes:inneedofabreak wrote: »In regards to mr smart price: I cant help but feel thats a little harsh. Yes, I take your point regarding the passengers. Hopefully they would either be ATOL protected, or paid by Credit Card so were protected by S75 of the Consumer Credit Act.
As for the cabin staff and their management, they could end up sleeping on a park bench for all I care!:p0 -
Please excuse the above post by Mr Smart Price - he is afterall a Coventry City supporter (according to his avatar) - therefore he/she has not much to look forward to - it explains a lot !!0

Indeed, however the entire operation of getting XL pax home is being coordinated by Monarch, they are doing a hell of a lot more than operating aircraft, they are the people that have the blank canvas saying xxx people need to get from A to B.... I'm sure Monarch will get rewarded for this accordingly, but it does show how high their expertise in the industry is, the CAA went to them for this reason.
Regards all the other bad comments, well you judge an airline on your experience, and if you have had a bad one fair enough. But if you had the same experience with Thomson/First Choice etc then its them you would be moaning about... no airline are perfect but Monarch do what they do very well, its why they've been doing it for 40 years continuously and are still independent. Damaged baggage happens with all airlines, its actually the handling agents, cr*p cabin crew also work for all airlines, and as cramped as you may think it was, the truth is that nearly all the budget and charter airlines operate aircraft in nearly identical configurations.Monarch are a rubbish airline and I would have a good old chuckle if they did go tits-up0
