Monarch Airlines - how safe ??
Comments

Monarch are a very good airline and very well run, they celebrated their 40th anniversary in April this year. I used to work for them and they were the best airline that I worked for.
They are very good at what they do and their business model of operating both scheduled and charter flights works well for them.
They are strong in the market same as Thomas Cook and Thomson hence none of them being on Paddy Power's list.:j Debt free since 31/01/08:j

Maybe but i personally don't like them... but this is my personal opinion and should not stop anyone flying with them (plus its off topic).
Back on topic now.... i don't think this airline will be going but you never know in this current climate.0 -
Like bagand96 said, Monarch is the airline chosen by the civil aviation authority to run the rescue operation for all the stranded XL customers, so they must be quite well run.0

Monarch's training captain was my examiner for my pilot's licence, a man who at the time (1999) had over 14,000 hours of flying experience in both civil airlines and the Royal Navy. My flying instructor for much of my training was also a Monarch pilot. I was so impressed with the training captain that I subsequently bought into an aircraft group he was a member of. It was always a pleasure to fly with the two of them and as a consequence my opinion of Monarch crew is very high.0

I am pleased i quickly rebooked my flight and got my family seats with monarch when i heared about XL on friday morning, we are flighing to tenerife on the 30 sep and for the 3 of us i paid £505 with monarch on friday 12 sep but less than 24hrs i went back to the monarch website to see if the were seats left on the plane so i coule move us to better one i typed inthe same details and seen that monarch had more than DOUBLED there prices for that flight.
For the same flight there and back for 2 weeks i paid on the friday £505 in a space less than 24hrs they more than doubled there price to £1111.00, what a joke there are profiting off us pure people than lost flights and making us pay more than double the more to continue are holiday. Yes my xl flight is atol protected and i can claim my money back but that $505 is money i have not got and had to put on my credit card just to keep a promise to my daughter and wife that we will go away this year and when you see a airline like monarch who have been appointed by the CAA to help Xl customers go and double there prices it makes you wonder is this the way are country is going.0 -
Monarch are a good airline, they have been around for a long time and if they were carp then I am sure that the CAA would never have recruited them to do the mercy flights for the XL passengers.
It's not just Monarch that are doing the rescue flights. The CAA are paying a number of british airlines to do rescue flights.Mum to 2 cheeky little monkeys!Usborne Books at Home Organiser0 -

Monarch and other airlines are not putting their prices up on purpose to make money out of people who are having to rebook their flights. It is called yield management, the more demand for seats the higher the price goes.
You were fortunate to rebook quickly and obviously got in before most other people. The cheapest seats would have been snapped up months ago. A flight full of everyone paying £170 each or less are is going to make any money, so there are seats on flights that cost more. Airlines to have to try to make some money, at the end of the day they are running a business and trying to make a profit to ensure that the stay in business.:j Debt free since 31/01/08:j

I agree with you. I have flown with many airlines in recent years and Monarch are a quite unpleasant experience. The planes are old and tatty. The seat pitch is poor, very uncomfortable when you are 6'3". And the in-flight service was abysmal on a trip to and from Portugal last year. I vowed never to fly with them again.
The cabin staff were extremely rude and stupid. They actually appeared to have been taking something on the return flight as they were like zombies. They ignored requests, dropped and spilled things continually, and refused to provide a complaint form for passengers who asked for one. They accused anyone complaining about their conduct (several people) of being 'disruptive'.
Monarch are a rubbish airline and I would have a good old chuckle if they did go tits-up!:D0 -

My daughter recently went to Cyprus with Monarch.
On the outbound flight they destroyed her suitcase. On the return flight they lost the replacement suitcase she bought in Cyprus; they finally delivered that a week later, also badly damaged, but not until they had sent her someone else's case first.
She also said the cabin crew were rude and unpleasant.0
