I cant see any problem with your 'spec'
Id personally put 1 gig of memory in but it still shouldnt be running THAT slow with 500 meg.

Is it slow in use too?

If so press control alt and delete to bring the task manager up and tell us whats taking up CPU power

May as well download defraggler and degrag your drive too ~

BOBS - a bit more info for you.....

    1. realtray is linked to the stanex trojan, so disable it in startup and ensure you remove it..

    2. VTTray and timer are for your graphics system, they're ok...

I assure you that youll see a speed increase with 1 gig or more installed. So id REALLY be looking at upgrading your RAM if I were you.
Im going to guess that the reason its running slow is probably due to norton. Most anti virus software updates ITSELF (As in the actual PROGRAM, not just the viral definitions). So its probably using more resources than it should be (Not necessarily CPU, it could just be scanning your hard drive on each boot up. IF thats the case it really needs that part disabling).

I would recommend getting rid of norton. Get AVAST (I use AVG myself but AVG isnt recommended for 'slow' computers)
    http://www.avast.com/eng/home-registration.php
    and comodo firewall ~
    http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/download_firewall.html
When installing comodo untick ALL the extra rubbish you dont need (Toolbars etc) and DONT have DEFENSE running (Its safer with defense, but slower and isnt really needed)

IF you go down the route of Avast and Comodo you MUST make sure Norton is COMPLETELY gone. if its firewall is still runing it will more than likely make your computer unbootable. You must NEVER have 2 firewalls running. And running 2 anti viruses is a nono too (Though not as bad as 2 firewalls)

ooooooo ~ run ccleaner again too and run the 'registry' cleaner part (2nd option down)

BOBS - google norton removal tool....you need a specific bit of software to fully remove it, I think provided by symantec (norton) themselves...just uninstalling won't do it properly

    Really depends all this
Put the anti virus and firewall on your desktop ready to install but do NOT install.

Now Norton ~ ive had 2 things happen to me personally. One was a REAL problem removing it (Where I had to use nortons own 'removal' tool). The other it removed no problem.

Just have to see how you go on really but if I were you id have a quick look for said 'removal tool' just in case you need it (I dont have time at the moment ~ sorry)

You can set a restore point if you wish but I honestly think theyre a nightmare them things. More often than not something goes wrong with them.
As for unistalling Norton, i would recommend shutting it down and disconnecting from the net. Goto 'START' and 'programs' and if memory serves correct there should be an actual uninstall program in the norton files.

system restores are fine if you know what you're doing. And dont bother with trying to remove Norton without the official Norton removal tool, and you certainly dont need to disconnect from the internet or anything stupid like that

Im under the impression that theres possibly something nasty on his computer so PLEASE tell me DAD ;) ~ how do you come to the conclusion thats its quite safe to allow access to the net with no anti virus or firewall present?
