Cruciate ligament damage in dogs

Well we took Briar back this morning and as we feared, her other cruciate has gone
She is back in tomorrow morning for the op and will be home Christmas Eve.
On a more positive note, Skye is doing well. We won't know for sure until she goes back for x-rays next Monday but all the signs are good. She's currently lying in front of the fire having a nice dream with all her legs twitching.0 -
Sorry to hear about Briar. At least it's winter time so you both might not miss the exercise too much. Hope she doesn't get too frustrated.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Just logged on this morning as have been busy with the usual festivites and was so sorry to read about poor little Briar - do hope all went well for her and that she is home and comfortable. I was really hoping that it was just a muscle thing for you. Hey Ho onwards and upwards and expect she is snoozing a lot at the mo. We are keeping up with the strict regime with Meggie and she is really bouncing around now especially when it came to opening her pressies so are still trying to keep her calm but have little bursts of exercise. Still has another 4 weeks to go before she is allowed off lead but she's not too bothered thank goodness.
Its been bitterly cold here like everyelse I guess so at least a nice warm fire is a comfort at least. Got the Martin Clunes dog book for Christmas so am looking forward to curling up with that!
Good news about Skye and do hope she gets the all clear. Very best wishes and good luck and hope the second time around proves easier! one lives in hope!0 -
Briar is being a little minx, jumping on and off the settee when we're not looking. Fortunately she doesn't seem to have done herself any harm, although I have warned her that if she doesn't behave we'll be getting the cage out !!!
Skye has continued to improve, the vet had to reschedule her appointment for next Monday so we have to wait another week before she gets the all clear.
Unfortunately, the referrals centre where they're being treated no longer do direct claims on pet insurance so we're having to pay up front and claim it back. Up to now our insurers (More Than) have been really good and they approved Briar's second cruciate op before it was done so we know that we'll get the money back eventually. It is a worry though, especially if Skye needs any further treatment.0 -
Oh crikey! probably thinks: seen it, done it and wrote the book on it and is getting a lot livelier a lot earlier especially as her other leg is as good as new I suspect - we virtually created a crate in a downstairs room with a stairgate across for Meg and put furnture up so that she couldn't get up to the windows but didn't stop her seeing the postman off etc. The bat like hearing came into play! It is a nightmare - Meggie is very excitable and stubborn it has been quite a job keeping her quiet for the last 2 months! Easy for the vets to say eh!
Ended up with a note on the door for about 6 weeks asking peeps to refrain from knocking/ringing door bell.
We also had to pay up front for her initial x-rays at the local vet £450.00+ then the op a week later which was £1700.00 but we did get settlement in around a week after the claim was lodged which stopped any interest being charged, our insurers are Pet Plan and to date not had any problems so hope it gets sorted quickly for you.
Fingers crossed for Skye - look forward to hearing no doubt more antics!
Mine are all snoozing at the mo - very cold outside, had walk and breakfast and off to sleep for the morning. :T Thinking of you0 -
I was just wondering how the dogs were.
Meggie has made an amazing recovery and her leg is good as new! we are just crossing our fingers we will not have to go through another op but if it does at least are prepared for the process.
Best wishes to all.0 -
Only just seen this thread, the thing that worried me was the OP had an insurance policy which is not a real for life one. Hence once the £4k is used, thats it, no more funding for the condition.
Please everyone, check your policies do top up the amount that can be claimed every year and start over again. Id hate anyone to get caught out.0 -
Misty has only just in the last 2 weeks decided she wants to play with other dogs for a few seconds at a time so I finally got the ball out again this week. There has been a couple of times I have thought the problem was back so have been more careful. Now I'll just have to get back to normal and hope it's a long time away if she needs another Op.

I didn't know you could top up the plan you had. I thought you would have to change plan and then would not be covered for previous problems. I am with Petplan.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -
Hi Joy, may be I wasnt clear
What I meant was a genuine life time cover policy say for £6k would each year top up the pot to £6k. With a lot of policies which are not for life, the amount used on the condition would be totted up and once it reached the maximum amount you would be on your own - no further expenses met. Say it was a Tesco plan for £4k. You spend £3k one year on a hip op, the next year you need remedial work on the hip which totals another £2k. At the point you reach £4k then that would be it. You would have to pay out the extra cost for that condition and any further costs for that condition or related conditions for the rest of the dogs life.
On a genuine for life policy, say on £6k max - £3k paid first year. Next year, pot topped up to £6k. Further £2k paid out. Next year, pot topped up to £6k any further costs paid out. Hope thats clearer?

I get £4000 per year so thought you were referring to me. As the operation and treatment cost £2000 I'm hoping it's at least another year before treatment is needed again. Sorry for the confusion.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
