Cruciate ligament damage in dogs

Briar has just been back to see the very nice vet who did her op. He is very pleased with her progress and we can now increase her walks by 5 minutes a week until we go back again in 4 weeks after which, fingers crossed, we'll be able to let her off the lead in moderation :j
Apparently it takes time for the scar tissue to form around the nylon loop but he's pretty sure she'll go on to be absolutely fine and will have no problems being a working dog. We are so relieved and happy
Hope everyone else's canine invalids are recovring well.

My Dog Misty has her 10 week check today and all is going well. I have now to exercise her 2 times a day for 45 mins for the next 3 weeks. After that she is allowed off the leash. I am now also able to remove the tables etc from my Sofas! That will make things a lot easier as last week she decided whatever obstacles were put in the way to stop her jumping onto them that she would overcome.
She has a little thickening at the knee joint but if it was a problem she would be acting lame so it's okay. I have been advised though that in the future the other side will need done. Hopefully not for at least a year so that the Petplan covers it all. She has also lost 1.5 Kilos so the Vet was happy even if the Dog is not.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -
Joyful, that's great news. I can't wait until Briar can be off the lead, Springers were born to run and spring !!!
Misty's done well to lose weight when she hasn't been able to exercise properly - wish it worked for humans :rolleyes:0 -
The only reason she's lost weight as her food intake was halved:eek:. I also can't wait for the off the leash part.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Iska has been for her 4 week check on Monday. She was fine with the different anesthetic luckily.
The vet was happy with how her leg has healed and stabilised but did say that the loop and screws were causing irritation to her soft tissue so there was still swelling there, it sould go down of it's own accord but if not by 6 weeks she will have to go back in to have the screws removed. Has enyone else experienced this?Supporting the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust0 -
Briar didn't have any screws in her leg so sorry I can't help.
Hope Iska is OK though.0 -
My Dog has screws in her leg. They look massive on the xray but don't appear to have caused problems. I hope Iska is okay by her 6 weeks. Did the Vet suggest anything you can do to help the swelling?Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Hi Joyful. He couldn't suggest anything to help only to wait and see what she is like in the 6 weeks. She's still on her anti-inflammatories so hopefully that will help and fingers crossed no more problems with the screws.
We can gradually increase her exercise now until she is back to her normal level of exercise so that should please her as she is too fraustrated for her own good bless her.Supporting the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust0 -
Fingers crossed.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
