    did a search on Roman Roads, not sure whether Rome is South of Florence but I found that one had been built between Rome & Florence in 154BC and working through other bits I found it seems to tie in with Vecchaio and Plazza della Signoria but I'm not sure. It doesn't say anywhere that it was a new road that was built and the history of Florence shows that there has always been a building of sorts where the Cathedral is.
    This is very very hard.
    :confused::confused::confused:

  • Rome is definately south of Florence, in fact there is a Via Roma south west of the cathedral, but I can't find a date for its construction anywhere. Help!

    The Via dei Calzaiuoli runs south from the cathedral but I can't find a date for it except that it seems to be earlier than 12th century.

    "The main route south from Piazza del Duomo is the arrow-straight Via dei Calzaiuoli , Florence's main street today as in Roman times"
  • The answer is 1330, had my OH on this all afternoon. He wouldn't give up. It's not a road but the southern door to the Baptistry which is in the shadow of the catherdral. It was built in 1330. It is correct as I have just had congratulations you have solved the Riddle:j :j :j
