As UK Average bills are in the region of £1,200 a year, what profit per person per year of the £1,200 do you feel is a reasonable margin?
[/QUOTE]
When these industies post their profits usualy in the millions if not billions it makes no difference which part they make the money it just needs to STOP! its as simple as that.
This is not M&S were you can just not buy if the price is to high or go somewere else this is for something which is a basic human need.
As I stated in my previous post its up to the industry to to come up with a proposal and if they cannot then the goverment should step in .
I really am not understanding the point you are making here.
You said earlier that you are not against companies making profit.
However you are complaining bitterly about the huge profits they are making; so presumably you contend that their profit margins are too high???
Is it not sensible to ask what you feel is a reasonable profit margin?
So let us assume that it is reasonable for the Government to take over the utility companies and get them to operate for zero profit - so the shareholders get no dividend or compensation for their investment being taken.
Let us go further and ensure that the 'fat cat' bosses of the Utility companies have to work for the same wage as someone stacking supermarket shelves.
How much difference do you feel that it will make to our £1,200 pa utility bills? £30 a year? £40? what figure have you in mind?
The truth is that people are understandably upset at our large energy bills and are desperate to be able to blame someone; and, aided by the hysteria generated by the tabloid media, the Utility companies have become the scapegoat.0 -

It really is not necessary, you are doing a fine job in confirming my comment without any further intervention from myself.0 -
I think the point is, if you reluctantly accept that the utility industry will never again be under State control, then it's very important what happens to ANY profit the energy companies make and where it ends up. Does it stay in the UK, for instance? Does it help build more storage facilities? Does it go to ensuring the truly vunerable are on the cheapest possible tariff commensurate with their circumstances? Yes to all of these? I think not...Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -

Again you have demonstrated your complete lack of logic!
Does it not occur to you that I might just have been on the phone? - actually a Skype call from my brother in the USA.0 -

I also own property in the USA and we are both aware of the cost of electricity in that country and the effect of currency fluctuations.0 -
