Bank Charges - illegal?

Is there a version of 'Pocket money' (for Symbian phones - I know it's a long shot) that can sync' with the PC version?
If not (and I am quite aware of how sad/geeky this is), then does anyone know if MS Money can import CSV files?.
If so, then I could write a little app for Java phones (which I would put up on the web for free when finished), so that you could enter what you have spent into your phone when you are out and have it update MS Money when you get back to your PC.
(I am quite aware that I have hijacked this thread - maybe I should start a seperate MS Money thread).0 -
I'd just like to say thanks to everyone for the info on this thread....I passed it over to a friend who has just had her late credit card payment charges refunded :jLaughter is the sun

Yes it can, in short.
Various people have written Excel add-ins, such as XL2QIF, that convert Excel files to QIF files. So if you have a credit card which allows you to donwload statements as .csv files, you can open them in Excel, apply XL2QIF to them and import the resulting file to Money. So some processing is necessary but it can be done.0 -
Thanks for that - just bought a copy this lunchtime - £25!!! at PC World - tried WHSmiths but they didn't have it.
Tried to find out if I could take it back if it didn't do what I wanted it to - but the girl wasn't sure, so I had to take a 25 quid chance.
Still, if my wife realises it cost 25 quid - it might prompt her to actually use it rather than waste the money ;-)0 -

That's what I meant....
That post is late...lol... not yours.
Not very clear but what I meant was. A new thread to discuss bank charges when this one's been running since Nov 18th.0 -

Ahhh - I see what you mean.
Must be lack of sleep causing me to be a bit clow on the uptake!! ;-)0 -
Hi everyone, I've been reading this thread with interest for ages and have just had a letter from HSBC's solicitors agreeing to pay me back £883.42 (they've tried to go for a gagging clause but I've just written them a letter about that!)
Just wanted to say thank you, thank you to dchurch24 (aka Robin Hood) and everyone else for their advice - I am amazed at how easily these mega-corporations will roll over.
Brief story so far:- Obtained 6 years worth of statements from HSBC - they moaned but I politely asked the Customer Service Advisor to check re: DPA with her manager - she did so and I got the whole lot for a tenner;
- Went throught the statements and put all charges in an Excel spreadsheet to calc the 8% APR;
- Wrote a letter addressed to 'The Customer Service Manager', asking for a refund of these charges - only a couple of paragraphs. Mentioned legal action etc;
- Received reply stating charges were fair and that I should budget more carefully in future;
- Wrote 2nd letter headed 'Final Notice Before Legal Action' - thanked manager for his time and copied/pasted the legal bit from my first letter, giving 7 days;
- Received 2nd reply, stating charges fair and were as published;
- Sued using Moneyclaim Online; used the text provided at Bankchargeshell - bit hard to squeeze everything in the boxes they give you but it was otherwise really easy to do;
- HSBC Acknowledged my claim with the court very quickly;
- Received letter from HSBC Solicitors stating charges fair, as published, would stand up in court etc. They are mindful of management time and so have agreed to cough the money in full (including court costs and 8% APR) - does this mean they'll settle any claim of any type so that their managers don't have to look at it?;
- Wrote letter today stating will accept their offer but won't accept the "reasonable" gagging clause they've inserted; my letter asks for a revised offer of payment.
Will let you know how I get on. And have started looking through all my other accounts...
Cheers,
