open office Q need help please

Hi guys
ian running vista home basic , i dont have a clue about word , office etc but i noticed when i tried to read files that a friend sent me it was all gobeldy goob so realised i need somethin like word ? is that correct ?
so a friend sent me a link for open office.org ! i downloaded it to save then i clicked on it to run as adminastrator and got a mesage saying it was corrupt ! i then went into programes to try and remove it (uninstall it) but cannot find it now

I need help to find it as i dont want it on my pc if its corupt also need some other ideas off what i can get to download free so that i can read documents
any help please ?

If you clicked it and it said it was corrupted then it did not install.
Go to http://www.openoffice.org/ and download it again.

Then run the install again.

try running it as normal NOT as the Administrator.

See if you get a different error.

sorry for sounding thick but its prob because iam lol but when i click on download do i run or save ? last time i saved then when it was in programmes i clicked on it to open

I usually Save then run it.
But does not usually make a diffrence.

how do i ask for it in txt format ? sorry i dont understand but thanks for trying to help me
