    Morning everyone

Does anyone have tips on offering samples?
I just vary what I give them but am thinking it might be better to concentrate on one or 2 products and plug it with an incentive offer.
like 50's glam perfume give out the sample to all my customers and offer them a £1 or £2 off their order of the perfume.

I just find I am giving out samples for nothing back if you know what I mean.
I have got my wee cousin buying the lippy samples herself as she loves that they are so compact and if she loses it out clubbing she doesn't mind too much.

any help would be very grateful.

I'd say the idea of offering an amount off the item was a great idea - if they like the smell of the perfume & they can get extra money off it they would be more tempted to buy it. You could always do that for lipsticks etc too.

For building up your samples, would be worth making sure you always buy the ones that are on offer, I am only just on my second campaign, but on my first order I ordered lots of the 24k lipstick samples with them being on offer, as well as the perfume samples on offer as they worked out at 6p each which is a bargain! Would definately make it worth offering a discount off the products when you can get the samples extra cheap. (Apologies if you already buy the samples when they are on offer!)

For your samples that are for products no longer in stock - did one of your customers really like that sample? If so you could maybe give them all of those samples as an extra freebie, saves chucking them!

Remember me telling you about the lady who looked like she wanted me to leave her order with her but didn't have the money yet? Well I didn't leave the order and so glad I didn't as I am having problems getting her to pay for it. Called round on Saturday lunch time and she said she hadn't been to the bank yet and would call me later. She did't call me later so I called her, no answer, then tried again on Sunday, no answer. So txt her would it be ok to bring it round on Monday evening, no answer, went round anyway, not in. Left a note to say I would call back tonight. Just hope she is in tonight after all this running around. I might make a note asking her to let me know if she still wants her order she will need to pay for it by Friday otherwise I will have to return it, as I like to put the money in the bank Saturday morning so that I can pay it online Sunday/Monday, before I place my next order on Tuesday. Just hope she still wants it as it is a £29 order!!

JUST THOUGHT I WOULD WARN PEOPLE NEVER TO LEAVE ORDERS WITHOUT PAYMENT. UNLESS YOU KNOW AND TRUST THEM OF COURSE.

Anyway on a lighter note collected 60 out of 70 books back in last night and got £126 orders, 2 of them was from my new territory who have been messed about by a previous rep so might take a while for them to gain confidence that I will collect their books and will deliver their orders. Have to go back tonight to the one's that were not in last night so hopefully more orders. Also still got friends and family orders to come in. I am going to take some books into work today as well. Talking about work I better get going. Have a good day everyone. :D

  • Beki, i've done some research and it looks like any of the warm orientals would be a possible replacement, ie Far Away etc.

Good call SW! I know it can be difficult to refuse to leave it, but I always say that it's because I'm such a scatterbrain that I'd get into a muddle as to who's paid and who's not - that way it doesn't look quite so much like you don't trust them! You don't, of course, but that's not the point is it :p

It never fails to amaze me how many excuses people can come up with as to why they haven't got the money. It's not as if they should be taken by surprise, since you've told them when it will be delivered. I have to say though that I can cope with the ones who say 'I won't have the money till next Wednesday' and then stick to that. It's those who say, come back tomorrow and I'll definitely have the money, and when you do then they haven't had a chance to go to the bank/Husband has gone out with all the money/Wife has gone out with all the money (yes, I had both on consecutive days at one address!)/dog's eaten the money. They surely don't think I believe all the excuses . Do they think I live on another planet and wouldn't understand 'I can't afford it this week'?. I find that the threat of returning it works like a charm :D

BTW re samples. I generally find they are a complete waste of money if you buy them in the hope of selling that particular product. However, I do buy perfume samples from time to time just so that customers feel they're getting something for nothing, and to keep up the interest/loyalty. I don't think I've ever sold anything directly off the back of a sample!

  • Went out last night to get my cats from T2. Got 13 back from 22 and Not 1 order. Two ladies have asked that I give them more time so I think that I will get those back.

It really annoys me when you an see that people are in but the just do not want to get up and open the door. Then some that do get funny that you are knocking on their door. I always put a note to say when I am coming back so if they do not like me knocking on the door, why do they not put it outside? I do not like having to knock on peoples doors as it takes twices as long to get my books back.

I got more back from t1 this time though. so I am hoping that I will from t2 next time. I am struggling to do 80 houses in 3 weeks on 20 cats though. lol. I think that I will order 50 next time.
£2,000 by October 09 for Wedding got £500/£2,000
    Avon - C4=£170, C5=£194, C6=£119,
    C7=£60 (aim = £200, 60/200)

I always included a note of when I will collecting the brochure and ask customers to leave on doorsteps. If they dont I always knock after all they should have left it out.

I put a little slip in the front of the bag that says
I will collect this brochure on (day and am/pm/evening)
Please leave it outside for collection
If you won't be in and don't wish to leave your order outside,
you can phone or email it to me. many thanks
    Kerry, your Avon rep
    (then my contact details)

The first few times I canvass a new road I also seal my bags with a sticker that says
If you do not wish to see further Avon book please write
your address on this label and leave the book out for collection,
so I do not disturb you in future. Thank you for your time.

I find this means that most books do get left out for me. I get nearly every book back when I recanvass as well, and I've even had a few notes in with books saying thankyou for being considerate and one that they don't order themselves but will pass my details on to friends because I'm obviously a good rep! Plus, I can get round my 800-house territory fairly quickly as I know I can miss a lot off - it's a waste of my time to give them a book if they're never going to order! Plus my regulars are all on one-stop-selling, which helps.
If I do get someone who doesn't leave the book out, I have no qualms about knocking. I've given them every option not to be disturbed. Although I do tend to try not to knock during soap/major sporting event/meal times. Most people are lovely about it even if they never want to see me again ;)

Snowwhite, I totally agree with you. I never leave goods with territory customers without payment. Not even with many of my friends to be honest. I always say I have to pay my bill 'tomorrow', if a customer doesn't have the money I ask when they will have it, and tell them I'll bring the goods round on that day. But I make it very clear that if they don't have the money that day, I won't hang around again. it goes back. If someone messes me around more than once, they get crossed off my customer list (I've only ever had to do it once). Once I know the customer, I can be a bit more flexible if there's a genuine problem. It sounds harsh but my time is my money, and as once I've delivered the book, collected it and attempted to deliver twice, it'd have to be a blimming big order to make the hourly rate worth it!

I usually do it just to keep them interested really but just wondered if anyone did get sales off the back of the products.
Looks like more money spent on nowt, might just look at lowering my spend target, just now it is £15 get a free gift but if I stop samples I could probably drop it to a £10.
I must say I don't do door to door for that reason is I just can't be bothered chasing people for money and books.
Much prefer my small circle and friends of friends :D
Life is what you make it;)

  • Hi
Was interested in the posts regarding discounts for lipsticks and fragrance.
How much of a discount would you consider offering, bearing in mind you would need to earn from the order.
Also have you notice that when you want to offer something, like sell on a 'demo product' Avon beats you to it with a special offer which means you make almost nothing !

Well I've just put my first order in... I think for just over £300.

It took me so long to press that button... can't help thinking I've forgotten something!!
Can't wait for it to come now on the 3rd... Will spend that time sorting out a newsletter to go into next lot of brochures... Spose I could start putting them out now to customers who said they'd order next time?!
If only I could get this to pay the same as my day job... I'd give it up in a flash!!
