Hi, I only did Avon for one campaign (8) last May and do not have any invoices or documentation, but I only made £20.

I do not want to complicate any of the sums either but hope that the Tax man can see that I am being honest.

I have an overwhelming fear that I will go to prison for tax evasion!!!! Silly I know, but you never can tell nowadays.

    What do you think?

I was the same last year, only had 2 campaigns so filled it in on paper and was late returning. Got a £100 fine and worried about it non stop. Found out when doing this years return that they never recieved last years so i have submitted it again - on the plus side, i'll get the £100 fine refunded. That wasn't to scare you, just to prove no need to worry.
If you only did one campaign that tax year and made £20, i would assume the turnover was £100, £80 expeniture - paid to avon for stock and books = £20 earning & no tax to pay. Please note, i'm not an accountant and just try to keep things simple. This maybe different though if you paid tax elsewhere during the same time.

    Hi,

Thanks for this - I worry about everything and as I have a little one, am scared that I won't be here for her.

I can handle a fine but I did pay tax on this £20 when i was sent a letter from Tax office, so hopefully that will be ok. I phoned the other day and was told that they would send me something to return in April so hopefully no late fine should be imposed.

Just worried as I have no paperwork that they take a grim view, however if you did the same last year then it should be ok. Did you make a one off payment or is it being added over the year?

    Thanks again for everything

Your welcome, although i'm no expert.
I didn't pay any tax on what i earnt from avon as i had not earnt more than personal allowence and this was my only income for that year.
You won't need any paperwork unless they decide to investigate, you don't need to send anything as evidence unless they flag something.
You can pay instalments, i think these are in advance so you then pay the difference when return is filed in January. Was the £20 earnt in May 2008? If thats the case you don't need to worry until next year and will recieve the information in a few months.

i was earning elsewhere and had this as a second job, however that was made clear with the tax office when I let them know I was doing Avon. They are sending me some information to complete in April so hopefully it will all be sorted then. I was told that I need not send any documentation now.

Thanks for easing my mind about the lack of paperwork though.

So chuffed, got most of my books back in and re-delivered again (got a large area and not many books at the moment!) and so far with family/work orders and 4 from the streets I'm up to £131:D Collecting books in again tomorrow so hopefully I can get at least £16 from those books and then I'm at the upper limit so I'll get my 25% commission :D

Lost 3 books so far, one at a house where they were in when I knocked last night, they wouldn't come to the door, so I pushed a note through "saying I was coming back tomorrow, please leave outside even if not ordering etc" - and they haven't put it out, so I think I've definately lost that book which is annoying!

A quick question - I'm thinking of getting the Avon bag, I think it's £10 (cats asleep on my knee so I can't get to the paperwork lol) it says that you get free samples in with it - what are they/how many do you get?

I know other people have mentioned in previous posts about not getting replies from emails - maybe the best bet would be to apply to be a rep online, then your local Avon lady will ring you up and you could ask her any questions you have over the phone or in a meeting. That's what I did and I was signed up within 2 days of applying!:D

I think there email system is faulty??? Anyway good luck! Maybe any questions you have you could post on here, I'm sure someone would answer them :)

Liz3yy, if you PM me your postcode I'll get you an email and number directly to the local area manager. The ASMs have a massive recruitment promotion at the moment so I'm pretty sure it'll be a fault rather than them just not responding.
  • I'm thinking i might sit and sort out my returns and other avon things now - just incase the naughty delivery man turns up a day early again
