  • I give presents to my most loyal customers - value depends on what they usually spend. The Christmas lip balm is only 50p, so some will be getting that!

I've officially got 136 houses in my territory, after removing those who order elsewhere or have "no cold callers" stickers I'm left with about 120ish I reckon.

Lots of my customers have No Doorstep Seller stickers but they still order Avon :D I just popped books thru with a note saying if they didn't want to see another then write their house number on the slip and lots of them ordered :T xx

  • Don't be put off by the 'No doorstep salesmen' etc. stickers. Have recently been trying to do both Avon and Betterware together  and it's surprising how many people actually order when they've a multitude of similar stickers on their door. Have come to the conclusion that the stickers are there to protect the occupants i.e. possibly elderly and (am only guessing) put their by their family members.

Delivered an order recently to someone with no less than four different such stickers on their door! (Was Betterware which they love.) Told him that he was confusing me with all the stickers - he just smiled and winked at me.

The other side of the coin is that the occupant could possibly be an elderly person, who would welcome a catalogue to look at and a friendly face to have a bit of a chat with. Am told that both Avon and Betterware are similar in that you are NOT doorstep salespeople; you are delivering a catalogue, giving them the option to just look and/or order, and you'll be collecting it again at such and such a date so you're not leaving them with any rubbishy circulars to dispose of.... Given that take on it and you are (almost) providing a community service! :rotfl:

My sales have been quite low reecently and am thinking, for 1 final push before Christmas make C1 an incentive to buy campaign (and C18 for the small other bit of my round). I was thinking of putting "every order gets a mystery gift for Christmas" but then what if people order things for £1-2??? I could give them an eye liner or something or shall I make it orders over £5?? £10?? I was just going to give a gift for people that ordered from C1 without telling them but figured I can boost sales if I advertise it.
I am also thinking of giving small gifts to people who have ordered since I started Avon, about 11-12 camps now - what do people think to that idea?

Instead of 'jam tomorrow' why not give them something now to encourage further/future orders? Am still new to this but so far I've given a sample fragrance or skincare product with every order (fragrance samples obviously don't work for my area as very few people have ordered any!) In the current campaign have put a Christmas card (with a little thank you note for business in 2009 that I ran off on the computer rather than use the Christmas card site that Avon suggested - £1 a card!) and a single chocolate. No ideas if that will encourage further orders but everyone likes to be acknowledged in some way.

I don't run raffles but offer a gift for personal referrals, leading to an order, and also give a gift for the largest order in my current campaign..... (A few get those - encourages people no end! :T)

  • i asked OH to go collect a book for me telling him that i wouldnt want to miss an order if she had placed one ....dafty thought i meant i knew she wanted to order so has asked her OH to ask her to drop book off to me as the order needed to be in tonight ...makes me look a bit silly and presumtious...oh well she has a real tendancy to mess me about...always asks me to go back for the book and that she will leave it outside if she isnt home (that never happens) i never can get her when she says she'll be there plus when she does order im forever going backwards and forwards trying to get payment...hmm!!!

Have a few items of old stock thanks to trying to source a TtTEb for a customer and buying a bargain bag. She was chuffed because I made the effort; I've got some great product albeit in old packaging; MiL (ex Avon agent) is getting a load of 'new' product as her Chrissie pressie, and the rest will go for promotional freebies..... Keep posting up the contents of the bargain bags peeps - really useful to know. Thanks!

Know where you're coming from, also have a customer who likes to 'play' me..... Having said that I picked up a customer from a previous rep, who presumably just gave up on the difficult customers and cherry-picked. The latter customer has given me my biggest order in the last two campaigns. I email her prior to delivering and so far 'their nightmare' has turned into a dream customer for me. Good idea to get as many contact details as possible for your customers - saves a few wasted journeys.
