You are right, I wouldn't compare it with the MSI.

I would much prefer to have more RAM, better graphics with a HDMI output, a larger screen, a higher capacity HDD, a higher quality webcam, Bluetooth onboard, eSata connection...

You can have the ACER, with it's Pentium processor and nothing else. Not even a built in microphone. A bit silly having to carry a microphone around if you are wanting to use Skype or the like.
You should really do a little more research before you recommend on price only.

Of course it depends on what is important to the buyer. Best to list the pros and cons and let them decide.

Why should I do more research when you agree with everything I have said ....
You stick to your refurb ....

Just out of curiousity (I have the exact same laptop), what happened to it to leave you needing a new laptop?

I was on it the other night and the laptop just turned off, I cannot turn it back on and on the charger when you plug it in the mains the light is on then when you attach it to the laptop itself the light goes off..... very strange!!!

Hmmm...I credited you with a bit more intelligence. Seems that was a mistake. :)

The ACER is rubbish. That is why I wouldn't compare it to the MSI.

Your simplistic assertion that the ACER's processor makes it a better machine than the MSI is just wrong.

As is your assertion to avoid Argos because you can get better specs using ebuyer. That is also totally ridiculous as I've just illustrated.

The MSI has the same one year warranty than your re-badged e-Machines Acer. The ACER has not only got no useful function beyond a VGA quality webcam, but no built in microphone. There are a few people who own this machine who are a little upset because of that omission.

So you suck people in with your generalised statement and then try to sell them a puppy.

I think everyone here will take your 'recommendations' with a great bit pinch of salt in the future.
  • Reading through the thread it seems that its you that everyone will take your 'recommendations' with a great bit pinch of salt in the future as you seem to argue with everyone if there opinion is not the same as your own , all very childish Donnie and with that I bow out and will not bother reading this thread again so well done guess thats one more you have chased off...

Thanks for the reply, and strange indeed. I think I would get it checked out by someone even if you are set on getting a new one, at least then you can sell it on to offset the price of the new one.

Maybe that because I actually look at what I am recommending, so am happy to argue it pros and cons with anyone.
I certainly have no problem with someone pointing out my mistakes. Just as I don't think anyone else should have a problem with me pointing out theirs.

After all, we all want the same result. Good, value for money machines for all.
So, it helps to have as many eyes on the job as possible.

But if someone like yourself comes on to make a sweeping and inaccurate statement and then goes on to recommend a rather poor machine, you shouldn't be upset if someone challenges your notion.
It would be remiss not to do so.

What happens when someone buys the thing and then comes back saying that they are having problems with their webchats? That their mike doesn't work.
Will you be giving them the benefit of your technical advice? I haven't seen you helping out on the Tech forum.
No, you will be long gone.
Don't let the door smack you on your way out.

Well in the interests of balance I found Donnie's suggestions very useful in my search for a new laptop. Having read through a few of the most recent pages I did some research, looked at reviews and made a decision myself. At the end of the day I have a laptop of a good spec at a reasonable price which suits my needs and from a seller I wouldn't have previously found.

Many spend their time on MSE assisting others and I am grateful for that; ok sometimes they disagree with others but that's life and as long as they are helpful I can live with them making some points bluntly.

I should say I have no idea who Donnie is and have no connection with any business selling refurb (on the face of it) laptops

Totally agree that Donnie's intentions appear to be helping others with his advice. In the interest of balance though, I find that his (or her) way of using words can indeed be quite offensive (and childish) at times. Sorry Donnie but you said that you are open for criticism. THanks for your attempts to help others anyway.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
  • People disagree on occasion, and we probably all know, that something typed on screen, without the tone of the voice or facial expressions to go with it, can come over as offensive or critical when it might have been meant to be tongue in cheek or harmless.
As far as I'm concerned I am grateful for any advice and suggestion, but ultimately of course I'll do my own research and make my own decision and won't hold anybody else responsible, should I then not be happy with my purchase.
So, could we possibly get back to discussing laptops, and not the character traits of the people giving the advice?
