Kind of you to reply.
The Lenovo G550 on the ASDA website seems like a really good deal too.
A little more weighty at 2.56kg but the specs are great for the price and it is again a 15.6" screen so should be quite convenient to carry around. A bargain at £3570 -
I'm looking for a laptop for producing office documents for work especially using a statistical progamme called SPSS. I'd also like to use for web access, music and movies but no high-end gaming required. I travel to a lot of conferences so I think a 14" screen would be ideal. Is it possible to get all this for £300?
The G550 Lenovo laptop available at ASDA and Ebuyer.com seems like a good deal and has been recommended on this thread
Can anyone recommend a similar deal for a 14" laptop?

Hi all,
ive read through a few posts and i just wanted to ask if anyone has seen a laptop/netbook that 1) is capable of some lightweight/moderate gaming (CS:S/TF2 on low for example (yes i know Intel will cope but i just dont want to go there)) 2) ultra portable, i have no qualms with weight as i have a trolley bag i can use if needs be 3) as close to £200 as possible.
I do realise that these days even netbooks are pushing the prices into the 300's and the fact i want something thats ATi or nvidia based. Ive seen the Compaq mini 311's for about £250 on amazon, but theyre all from third party people... and i have LOTS of trust issues (hence why i dont use ebay for anything) Im probably just asking for a flaming but hey, dont ask etc0 -

Hello
As posted further down the thread, I'm looking for a new laptop after my new/old one was stolen at 4am today. I don't need it to be especially fast, though I might well be running several apps at a time e.g. Word, an internet browser, iTunes and sometimes I know things can hang quite badly!
I'd like to spend £400 or so - my stolen one is a Vaio and, as I said in my previous question, I wonder if it might make the chances of a restore from my back-ups succeeding slightly higher if I got another Vaio. Last year, before I bought the Vaio, I had a poor experience with an Acer that looked gorgeous but then the screen stopped working altogether after a single reboot, so probably not too keen on them. I also would like something fairly lightweight, that isn't too much of a pain for irregular travelling (I use a netbook for everyday stuff). Plus ideally I'd order from amazon so that it can be delivered on Tuesday and be brought back by my boyfriend to Spain.
Wondered about this HP but it's more than I wanted to pay - any other ideas would be gratefully received!

My son just bought that model from Ebuyer-much cheaper. He's very pleased with it.0

Further update re J&H Henry, suppliers of refurbished laptops on Argos's clearance shop on ebay - left news of a bad experience further up the thread so thought I'd finish the story.
After a couple weeks chasing, the story has a happy ending. When I resorted to contacting Argos as well as J&H Henry, they managed to arrange between them to send me a replacement laptop on the same day they picked up the faulty one (so I didn't have to take a 6th day off to post and receive replacement), as long as I gave them my credit card details, which they'd charge if I failed to return the broken laptop - seems fair and cooperative. They also agreed to let me swap the hard disks round to save me reinstalling everything (including the operating system as they'd installed the wrong one).
Final outcome: A couple weeks of a lot of hassle chasing emails and calls getting replacements and setting up and testing the laptops, I could have been unlucky but there were a several slip-ups. However ended up with an incredibly cheap high spec laptop (Medion Akoya P6613 - T4200 2GHz dual core, 4GB, 320GB, nVidia geforce) at just £256.
So if you urgently need a laptop up and running in a few days and have no time to chase or no technical skills if anything goes wrong, I'd avoid Argos clearance refurbs, but I would recommend them if a couple weeks' delay won't be too much of a problem and you've time in case something goes wrong to return it. (Do check that they've installed an operating system that can see all your memory though - ie, it must be 64 bit if you've more than 3GB.)
I've also posted this on my original comments in case people just dip into my earlier posts.0 -
Hi,
I am looking for a laptop for my son, would be used for internet, email, storing photos music etc. and some low graphic games (mainly Football Manager I should imagine).

You're asking for a laptop or netbook capable of gaming for £200?!?! When you find it can you get me a few kilos of diamonds for 50p
I know im asking for something thats very difficult to come by but im not asking for a gaming powerhouse... just some games that are... relatively old, hell i though i heard rumors that intel chipsets were starting to become more lower end gaming friendly. but youve made your point!0
