I have a had a little look through the thread already.
I'm on the lookout for a laptop, not netbook as they are too small (currently on one now and it's really annoying!)
Anyway, I only really use it for web surfing (facebook, mse, shopping), the occasional download and watching things like BBCi player etc.
I use it at home so dont need an ultra long battery life either.
Am I best going for a refurb?
I really dont want to have to go much higher than £300 if at all possible, much lower would be pushing it I think lol
Not suitable for gaming, but Ebay has a one day deal today from ebuyerexpress for a Lenovo G550 at just under £300 which might suit you.0 -
Is this any good???
http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.207-1342.aspx
Acer AS5332 Laptop (Intel Celeron Dual-Core, 4GB, 320GB, 15.6" Screen, Windows 7 Home Premium)
Would welcome thoughts - could stretch to that at a push0 -
Is the Sony VAIO VGN-BZ26E any good?0

Sorry, but if people like yourself and ceebeeby want any responses at all you need to firstly read thru the thread and secondly give some idea of what usage you are going to put the machine to, none of the rest of us are mindreaders!0 -

Thanks harz99 for the friendly reply, I stated useage in post #517 on this thread and re-bumped (in a manner) on #552.
As previously mentioned, I very much welcomed any advice - in the event, no advice was forthcoming and I therefore simply asked for some thoughts around a product that I thought might meet my pre-noted needs.0 -

Oops:o, sorry I didn't realise you had already posted. Probably best when bumping a question to simply quote the previous post, but no matter.
Although possibly a bit above your budget, the Samsung R519 package at Argos that I posted about on pages 23/24 is probably still available, and for me has two real advantages in the 3 year warranty and the same length antivirus protection.
My one is doing everything I want satisfactorily, and my needs are similar to yours.
Failing that the Toshiba 450/500 series seems to get good reviews, so maybe a trawl through the last 5 or 6 pages may help you.0 -

It comes with 1 years warranty and I also got the 3 years protection in with it too, it's a refurb, but to me it seems new, I dont think it has even been used.
Anyway, I am in love with it! :j0 -
Please treat me gently as I'm totally confused by all of this! I'm really not at all techie but just need something that works for me.
I need a new laptop for work and, because our techie person came back with something totally inappropriate when we tried this first time, we've agreed that I will get some suggestions of specific laptops so that he can see what I'm looking for. He wants to put Windows 7 professional on it and wants it to be a dual core processor. I think he might be a bit snobby about brands. Previous ones have been a Samsung and then a Toshiba.
Anyway, this is what I use it for:
Office network and remote working (connects to office network remotely)
Word processing - documents, letters etc.
E-mail (networked Outlook)
Excel spreadsheets
Working on company website (one of the ones that's all done for you and you just post on it)
I also use SPSS (research database software)
These are my additional requirements (and are important for the way I use a laptop):
Long battery life (so I can use it in meetings and avoid printing off long documents)
Small and light ( I have to carry it around a lot and also work on the train)
I don't need anything fancy. The top budget is £500 (I know this is the sub-£400 thread, but hope you'll forgive me!).
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Thanks!0 -

There's a Samsung P460-AA05UK on the BHS Direct website that should be ok for what you want it for (sorry can't post links yet). It's £427.00
It's not ultra lightweight but is quite light it weighs 2420g. Also I'm not sure on how long the battery will last as i couldn't find any information on the battery other than it is 6-cell
You could probably get something even lighter/cheaper if you were to make a compromise on processor speeds (shouldn't think you'd need that big of a processor for what you want it for). Hope this helps.
Spent all day looking for lightweight laptops myself with decent enough specs to suit my business, what a nightmare! Hope you manage to find one suitable.0 -

Thanks very much. I'll have a look at that one. The one our IT guy got me was a huge widescreen and it weighs so much that it hurts my back to carry it. It's too big too open it up properly on the train and it only has battery life of about 90 mins, so it's pretty shocking.
Kind of you to reply.0
