Well that'll teach me for procrastinating...

The Misco laptop is gone gone gone. I stayed up until 11ish last night debating whether or not to go for it, and now the decision is made for me, they've stopped selling it!!

I know the Dabs one is still there, but I was really drawn to the 2GB RAM spec. Does anyone know if this same laptop (same specs) is being sold elsewhere? I've hunted around but have so far drawn a blank.

Worth pointing out that the sony viao N32 in the article is £449 if you follow the link to the Play website. It is available at Costco for £405 with a longer warranty.

Don't do it. Yes on the face of things it's not bad, but this generation of AMD processors are terrible. See my post above yours or my previous on the first page. Get a nice Intel Core2Duo.

For the price this laptop is, you can definitely, get a Core2Duo machine.

I still maintain the Tesco Deal I've posted above packs a punch and still comes in at less than £350. Added to this 3% cashback from Quidco (circa £10) and double Clubcard points for Clubcard deals worth (just short of £14). This could work out closer to £325. (add a Tesco sim card for free delivery :D)

2.2Ghz C2D with 4mb L2 Cache and 2GB RAM? The only down side to it is the fact that I'm not keen on the casing.

Thanks for the tip dreamypuma, I've ordered one from Tesco Direct (and yes, I remembered Quidco, and there's even a £5.00 off voucher to be found on hotdeals) so I look forward to tomorrow, when it gets delivered, to see how it holds up.

Personally I don't see what all the fuss about Acer is... they seem to unfairly have a bad rep. In my experience, Fujitsu and Dell can be FAR worse on the reliability scale.

I agree in that the Aspire is a cracking deal i bought the 5630 last year from pc world and it was £449 i have a sony viao as well and the acer was half the pirce and does a better job. good buy matey and a good recommendation :)
  • Above is at Sainsbury - is it a good make and a good deal? I need a laptop to access my work system remotely and my acer 1691 wlmi struggles even with a memory upgrade. The processor is a Pentium M 730 that I can't even find in the tables of available processors. Shall I get a cheaper one than the medion ? i am confused and do not wnat to pay more than #500. I have been very satisfied with my little Acer.

After months of looking around I recently bought a HP 530. Core2Duo 1.6Ghz, 1GB RAM off Ebay. It only cost £280 new.
It's solidly built (soooo much better than a Fujitsu Amilo I previously bought and returned).

It's very portable, has an excellent screen and keyboard. The only slight negatives are max. RAM is 2GB (I can't think that's a problem for most people, certainly not for me and I work in IT) and the battery only lasts 2 hours max.

Here's a review of it. I've had it two weeks and don't use my desktop anymore.

  • Ok ..... another one with a kid going to uni. but this one wants to spend as little as possible.

Just need to access internet for e mail and bit of research.... no doubt a little music downloading and facebook too.... and then word processing...... excel... perhaps a powerpoint???

what do y'all think of this lot.
