Wow, quite the judgemental superiority complex you got there!
I just hate people being sucked into buying stuff they don't need and wasting the planet / their own money, and if I don't do that, then I am, in one regard, superior, but at least I explain why I do this, and what the specifics are regarding computers and software, in detail. People can learn more from my post, whatever the tone, than yours or most of the others on here, perhaps? Forums are useful for that, rather than just chat that isn't useful to anyone coming in later after the deals are gone... Anyway, if people could learn to critically-analyse things, taking the content as more important than the style, well, the world would be a better place... i.e. more meritocratic - but thanks, I'll work on my style, haha, a little doesn't go amiss.0 -

This is a thread about where to find, and get advice on buying, cheap but reasonable laptops (the clue's in the thread title). Your post had absolutely nothing to do with that. If you want to discuss keeping your old laptop going, start (or contribute to) that thread, your overlong rant has no relevance to people coming here looking for a new laptop. And trust me, having been following and contributing to this thread right form the start, once someone has set their heart on a new laptop no amount of advice on tweaking their current one (you're not the first) changes their mind.0 -

This is cheaper and slightly better spec. Wouldn't say Asus is "one of the best make" at all.0 -
Ok, I can't believe that someone would recommend a Packard Bell (one of Acer's budget brands) over an Asus because it has a bigger hard drive!!
As a full time laptop tech I can assure samanthag that the Asus will prove far more reliable over time than any Packard Bell machine however well specced it might be.0 -

Oops! A bit of an own goal I would say...0 -

I didn't recommend anything. I pointed out that the PB was cheaper and better specced.0 -

Hello
I was wandering round PCW and spotted an HP G6-1336sa Charcoal for £399.99 in store.
I had a link in here but I'm new so had to remove it but a quick search on pcworld.co.uk should turn it up though the price will be wrong at £429
They look good to me but I know nothing about laptops.
You can get another 40 quid off if you get a gaudy coloured one.
I would appreciate an opinion from those who know more about these things than I.
Cheers0 -
Fujitsu AH530, better spec than the one advertised on the MSE page here (500GB HDD, 4GB memory) for £280 from Dabs eBay outlet here
Only issues I've heard of are poor speakers, but otherwise, a sturdy little fella for basic stuff (just don't expect to be playing the latest games on it) - relatively old (but not obsolete) processor, but for office, internet, music, media, watching video etc more than capable0
