Yep that is the one. My OH bought it for his parents and has been playing with it and loading the software they need. He is impressed for the price. The thing with computers these days is you don't know how long they are going to last (they all usually get through their 12 month warranty period, it would be nice if it didn't cost half the price of a new computer for a 3 year warranty).

It doesn't. Perhaps closer to £80.

By the time i had spent a day searching online for a decent deal my brain has started to turn to mush. So I settled for a refurbished laptop deal from Dell outlet. Plenty of choice and good prices. Free delivery at the moment. You need to calculate the vat on the prices shown on their pages to get an idea of the final price. £335

I haven't had an asus previously. I am looking at this one on ebuyer for £349.
Will be used as my student daughter's laptop but this student is a bit heavy handed.

    http://www.ebuyer.com/322115-asus-x54h-laptop-x54h-sx168v

    Am open to other suggestions.
Needs to have webcam and hdmi and I can go a little higher in the price.

Have also looked at the Samsung RV520 on Amazon
and the Acer 5749 at Argos but as these are a little above the £350 - so didn't want to get complaints for including them!
    Thanks for any help/comments
The Asus also has USB 3 socket.

Hi, would like a bit of advice please - seen the Toshiba Satellite L750D-14R in Currys/PC World for £379.99, seems a bit of a bargain

Is this about the best sub-£400 in terms of RAM and Hard Drive space? I've had my current Toshiba Equium since 2005!

    Sorry I can't post a link as a newbie!
  • Hi

First time poster long time reader...

This one looks good from ebuyer...can any of the experts here confirm or advise of any better deals about?

Looking to buy a new laptop this week.

    Many thanks

    (Re. above 2 posts)

Having a quick look at http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/toshiba-satellite-l750d-14r-15-6-laptop-red-11306306-pdt.html (red) and http://www.ebuyer.com/276388-toshiba-satellite-pro-c660-255-laptop-psc1me-00q00ken these have a CPUbenchmark of 742 and 2622 and respectively. The former appears to be home-user friendly (decent sound and HDMI) while the latter doesn't have HDMI.

I'd always go for grunt versus appearance. The Ebuyer one is a good price (for a Toshiba). The £350 Asus (above) is a bit cheaper (with less memory) but is also quite good.
  • Thanks grumpycrab think ill go for the toshiba from ebuyer then....i assume ebuyer is a reputable company after seeing it linked here a few times before? would i be missing out on much by not having HDMI?

    many thanks again much appreciated

I've never had any issues with Ebuyer. HDMI is a single cable (video +audio) connection to your TV from laptop; useful for playing iPlayer on your laptop and watching on your TV (without HDMI you need 2 cables to do the same job).

& also, obviously it wont be HD without the HDMI. HDMI cables cheep as chips on E-Bay
