Thanks grumpycrab, that's just what I want, from reading hotukdeals it sounds brilliant, so that's what I'll go for. Big savings on it too.

Comet must have bought a bulk load of Asus's, in my local one they only had about 3 other makes, they were all Asus in varying prices, but especially the £300 & £350 ones.

The Asus X54H deal at Comet (£350) is a great one IMHO.

Bought one for my parents, and it's perfect for what they do - Microsoft Excel/Word (£69 if bought with the laptop), Skype, Internet and some non-graphic/processor intense games. They're just having to get used to a keyboard layout that includes a numberpad (and so am I as I type this!!)

Yes, there's a lot of rubbish on there - which I've un-installed, but for the amount of money it's a good bit of kit.

Well, its got the JL 2 yr Gtee, and 6g Ram, but dosent appear to have an HDMI or USB 3 port, which the Asus Has. Both are regarded as the top 2 for reliability (Apple excepted)...so its really choice.

None particularly good value to my eye.

This MEDION® AKOYA® E6221(MD97834) is more attractively priced at £315.95 delivered.

£279.99 is pretty good for 1.6GHz AMD E-350 / 15.6" / 4GB / 500GB. Online or collect instore still available.

I was also looking too at this Currys Lenovo http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/lenovo-g575-15-6-laptop-11358336-pdt.html £279.99 looks good again. 4GB RAM and 64bit too.

Not sure these are considered 'powerful' but they are not the budget end of the market.
