Sorry!
It's how the glass is put in. With double glazed windows they clip it in using a 'bead' (a piece of uPVC that snaps into place all around where the glass meets the frame). If this is on the outside, it's accessable to anyone and can easily be uncliped and the glass removed (it happend to a friend, which is how I know!). If it's fitted on the inside, the glass cannot be removed from the outside. With most modern windows it's not a problem, as they are 'internally glazed', ie glass is put in from the inside, but worth asking before you buy.
If you get something from Freecycle or ebay, it's more likely that you're going to come across the older style. To make them secure you can take the bead off and put some silicon sealer around the glass, before re-attaching the bead, but it gets a bit messy. This should stop anything untoward, but will also be a pain if you ever need to replace the glass yourself.
Sorry it got a bit long-winded, but hope it helps.0 -

Feeling a bit down at the mo, no particular reason but everything seems like a lot of effort. Perhaps I could stay in bed until spring?
think of the money saving... no bus pass, work lunches, etc...
Oh well
On a good note, i think its good, OH has been offered overtime this weekend which is good for £ but means he will be very grumpy if he has to work Sat and Sun. Means the decking won't get put down but I'm wondering if I might get some help from Mum to move the wisteriahow would i cope without family?
Received a letter in the post sayign that our cinema cards are up for renewal in mid Nov. Not 100% sure if I want to carry it on but i know OH does. We do get our money out of it - usually - ummm, should i pay for it out of savings or set up direct debit?least I've got a couple of weeks to think about it.
Talkign of weekes there's only one and a half to go before the art exhibition! I'd better choose what I'm going to show and get it framed. Fingers crossed someone will buy something:think:

Yes, we found local ones were more personable; and don't get me wrong when I said it's nice to get one over the sales guys nice or otherwise, and it was always done in a professional manner.
Do go for internal beading and ensure you see samples in your home. Look at the physical components and shape of the finish (some can look very office like). We didn't take the cheapest based on our observation of the product, lack of data on the origin of materials and they also wanted us to fit hopper style windows.
One very important point is to consider your egress routes in the event there is a fire; make sure you have fully opening windows on all floors and ideally, for those appropriate have fire-egress hinges so they open the widest to let you escape.
If you have a bathroom window above the bath, make sure it has toughened glass fitted; rule use to measure from the floor, but when standing in the bath (getting in or out, or with a shower over it) you will soon realise why you want the glass to be toughened to avoid injury if you slip.
Good luck0 -

Thanks for the hugs MissusF, I needed those. We could have a competition as to who has the most mince receipes:D
I'm looking forward to 5pm shopgirl when I can for a swim with my mum. I'm exhibiting some paintings, thankfully one of my friends is coming over Sunday to held me choose what to put in and frame them! I feel a bit of a failure cause I've had a commission on wait for months now and just haven't got round to it....I know...."I, SmlSave, solemnly swear to buy the materials, get off my a***e and paint the blind".....hope it works
Thanks StuartGMC and evab - lots of chocolate later and some sunshine and I am feeling a bit more optomisic. Definatly going to have fully opening windows at back and frontof house. and internal beading of course!
Looks like the New York hotel, for one night is going to cost £150! I'm amazed its so much but of course we're paying extra to be in the centre and to have a private bathroom. Fingers crossed it'll be worth it.
Any hoo, Plan for this weekend is gardening.. again. and try to clean the house! See you Monday!Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck
