I'm sure you used to be able to get a rail that you could put up for curtaiins that didn't require 'fixing' - anyone heard of these?

    Hello SmlSave

I think the non-fix rails are for net curtains. Thin extendable poles with a spring inside. There's a prob creeps in if you want to open the door. Mine was a thin hinged bracket fastened to the wall and a length of wood with curtain pole rings on positioned above the door so that it swung 'open' towards the wall or 'shut' over the door. They were very heavy curtains!!

Now that sounds like the sort of thing I need. Its started to get cold enough that I'm thinking of getting the blankets out and in the living room. I really don't want to put the central heating on till the end of October.

My penny jar is filling up nicely now, its an old whisky container and i'm trying not to count it till its full, i'm 1/4 way there :T

    well done SS, great progress.

I've never had any problems with A & L - how long has it taken so far?

r.e windows - we're only doing a couple at a time, probably more expensive in the end but after kids rooms are done then we'll do the window in the room that we will decorate. First off will be the bathroom to decorate as minging!

Well I opened a current account basically to get £100 and cos Martin recommened them. Its been two months and I still can't access anything online because they first wouldn't give me my id and are at the momoment sending me pin numbers that don't work - had three so far and am waiting on the fourth. Very annoying

Have you got a company doing your windows or are trying DIY?

Been thinking about doing the windows a bit at the time, OH suggested that we do the back first then the front so at least if something happens one side of the house looks ok! I'm aiming to have enough to do at least one side of the house done mid next year and the rest at the end of the year.

Have got a towel soaking up the leak in the bedroom window at the mo!:rotfl:

I see you are in the "glass half-full" portion of the population... :rotfl:

However, I would be most interested to know if you need any more of these; send them to me and I'll remove the whisky for you and pass on the clean container. Is that a deal? ;)

Appreciate the cost implications, but have you considered the total costs if you divide the work up this way? For example the quote overall in one job will be cheaper than piecemeal; I recall that doors alone would be very expensive but reduce if part of the overall installation.

Morning Stuart, I like to think that I'm in the glass half-empty portion saying..."where is the rest of my drink, I demand a refund"...:rotfl:

:rotfl: tell you what we'll empty it together:beer:

Every company said different things.. SafeStyle charge £60  extra on each installation! While others said they wouldn't charge anything and some would/would not give a discount for a job lot. They never make things easy do they?

We've had several quotes and have all been around the same figure, we would love to get the whole house down but realistically the kids rooms need sorting asap as very cold in their rooms and they are the only ones without radiators. Saving up to do the whole house would take ages as need 5 windows of which 2 are very large, a new front door and french doors to replace the current patio doors, and eventually in the future ( a very long time) when we convert the outhouse into a lovely utility/storage room, then another 2 doors needed and a window.

So we would rather do a bit at a time and decorate, otherwise we'll get fed up with the rubbish decor and no progress.

Have you had quotes from local companies, we have used any national ones.
