Your 'smilies' made me smile SMF2 :D Where do you find them all?

I just get them from google images - you can copy them in using the "envelope" icon above. Hope that makes sense:rotfl:

Good to hear of the wedding plans coming together well. Of course, we chaps cannot comment on hair cut prices, but I'll just note that £40 gets you a set of really good clippers and thereafter grade1 every two weeks means it is very cheap over the years the clippers last (of course, they last long as each year there is less on my head to cut ;)).

Hanging baskets and tomatoes is interesting; which varieties will you plant in them?

I hope you're not suggesting that I shave my head for the wedding Stuart!

OH is banned from clipping his hair - he looks like a recovering drug addict just out of jail with short hair:eek:

I've got 'tumbling tom' for my baskets which are flavour of the month at Gardeners World and another variety, whose name I can't remember, to try too. I'm all excited :D

Only £8 left to spend this month after an enjoyable and rather pricey weekend. But just think...I spent £27 on going out when last year I would have spent twice that without thinking.

I've got a voucher to claim two free tickets to the Renovating show in Birmingham this weekend, their website to claim has been down all last week and so I'm going to go down the phone route today. It would be nice to go and get ideas on how to do the windows but I reckon its easy to spend money there!

I'm off to buy lunch now :o I was running too late to make it this morning.

    Hi SmlSave,

Just starting out on the mortgage free journey & have been watching your thread with interest for a while.

I found the comment from the start of your diary about getting your OH to be as enthusiastic mirrored my feelings perfectly! At work creeping on at the moment so can't read through to find out if he has yet come around to your way of thinking - has he?! If so, any tips on how to get my OH to enter into the mortgage free mindset with enthusiasm? I could use some tips!!

Also, v impressed by the £82.09 spend on groceries in Jan, how did you do it?!

    Morning gymfiend

OH has agreed to save towards oping on the mortgage now, he seems much more enthused since I showed him our estimated house value and that we are heading into negative equity with the house prices falling. He was also amazed at how much interest could be saved by just oping £50 a month too. Its taken me a year to talk him round though!

I have to let him buy his 'toys' too though, first he wanted a PS3 @ £300 then a giga duke (sp) @ £220 and now he's decided on MP3 pod @ £25 - after many a discussion with me who first shook my head at the PS3, exclaimed at the prices, the size of the giga duke and then we finally agreed on the MP3 docking station.

Jan's grocery spend was largely due to the fact that I was on a storecupboard clear out icon7.gif I made a list of everything we had and tried to use everything up. Have you had a look on the OldStyle board? They have really good tips on storecupboard meals. I only manage under £150 every couple of months though:o

I pulled out the spreadsheet last night to show him, think he's starting to see why I'm so keen! Though he can't understand why I'd be willing to forgo new clothes/gadgets etc just so we can overpay. Will keep chipping away at him til he either agrees or gives up trying to disagree :)

Have popped into the OS board a few times, going to try & sit down at the weekend and work out a meal plan & shop around it. On the bright side we're away for a few days next week so my shopping bill should be under £100 this month :D

    Hi gymfiend,

RolandChayer-WelcomeSmiley.gif:D. Have you shown yor other half a mortgage overpayment calculator?

I quite like the Guardian one here:-

    http://money.guardian.co.uk/calculator/form/0,,603156,00.html

You can play about with the term and watch that interest fall !

I also like the Fool one - it is here:-

LOL, £300 for a Playstation 3 is a, ahem, "bargain" :o. Paid £375 for mine, but our son tends to use it more than me!

I think the average guy has a love affair with new gadgets but the less I buy the less I feel the need to buy things or they at least have to be deemed useful (I bought two redcurrant bushes today for £2) I found the weridest thing was that when I went to buy some new trousers recently I couldn't find a pair I liked for the price they wanted to charge ! Very strange...

I like the guardian calculator SMF2 and gymfiend, they have other useful ones too.

If I thought OH would use his PS3 as your son uses yours FB :rotfl:I wouldn't mind the £££ but I know he'll play it non-stop for three months (neglecting everything else) and then not touch it for the rest of the year.

I admit I buy a fair few books :o but I read them over and over again

Books are my weakness too. However, I do tend to buy more than I have time to read:rolleyes:
