I have been lucky so far (hubby hasn't!) that I have been able to converse with the call center staff fine and its nice to have someone with manners at the end of the phone line. My bugbear is when they say "Hello, you are speaking to ... Jane/John/Robert/Sally/Paul/Jenny etc" Why cant they give their real name but say something like "My name is Parvinder but that is hard to say so you can call me Paddy"? It drives me nuts  ! It starts the whole conversation with a lie and puts my teeth on edge

    PS: Rant over now!...

i bank with abbey and do telephone banking to pay my credit card and council tax. whenever i pay my ctax the usual indian people on the call centre say 'am making payment to lundon burrow of mutton'. good job i know they mean 'london borough of merton'/ :-)

that said have never had a problem with them except they cant pronounce my surname, but neither can anyone else. will make a thread about surnames in "discussion area" as it warrants its own thread.

Lloyds Tsb use indian call centres and i have always found them exceptionally polite and helpful, however just recently ever time i call phone banking they are too persistant trying to sell me something, and ive decided to change banks.

I tried to transfer some money from my savings account into my current account (Both Abbey accounts) using the abbey telebanking service. I gave up after 25 minutes of them not understanding my request. "I sorry, It not possible to do this"
OK, I've only done it, or the reverse transaction hundreds of times when the call centre was in Blighty. I eventually told them I'll go into my branch instead.Useless!!

I am most definitely not racist, however, to save sanity in the house we now refuse to speak to Indian call centre staff having been reduced to tears of frustration in the past. The very worst offenders are Abbey and one of our car insurance companies, that sent out SEVEN incorrect cover notices before finally getting it right.

Sometimes it could have been the simplest things (such as can you tell me where the nearest branch that is open is at 12:05 on a Saturday and just missed the local branch and desperately needing to pay cash in before Monday to avoid bank charges - new to area so phoned the call centre). The insurance was slightly more complex but not dramatically. The way that was resolved was by finally deciding to cancel the policy because of the errors and when getting through to the cancellation department, the very helpful chap on there said if you always press the cancellation of account on the phone prompt it always goes through to their UK base ..... same with Abbey (Indian call centres tend to be week-end with Abbey??)

  • I asked our switchboard to put me through to 'the 192 equivalent' because I didnt remember any of the new numbers, difficult to keep a straight face/voice when everybody overheard me trying to convince the 'overseas' operator that there was in fact a Manchester in England and I would like a number from there please, and they're all laughing. That was when they first changed over and I've not used them since.
