I don't know whether he's a troll or just seriously deluded.

Young people today (I'm only 31 but Jeez, how old do I sound?!) simply don't want to work for anything. In fact many believe they shouldn't have to! The problem is if you drop out of school and don't go on to Uni, then the only other option is to find a job. If there were no JSA for people his age, what would he do? If I were in Government that would be the FIRST thing I would cut! Leave the benefits for people who can't find a job not those who can't be arsed!

I could not even contemplate walking out of a job after 10 days! As a teenager I babysat for a few local families, earning anything from £5-£20per night. I also worked in a mushroom factory – hard, smelly work but you know what? There's nothing better to convince you to go find a job that you really like! ;)

And after I graduated from Uni, I took the first job I could in my field to get me on the ladder. This was in Ireland and minimum wage wasn't introduced till after I'd left the job 6 months later. So there I was, a graduate, 22 years old earning – wait for it – £2.50ph.

I'm not sure why people would say "no one enjoys going to work" – I know lots of people who enjoy their jobs. I'm a graphic designer and I LOVE it. Ok, so I didn't like WHERE I worked (but then I had been there for over 5 years) but I can honestly say I love WHAT I do. A friend who's a prison psychologist loves her job – it's not easy but she certainly gets job satisfaction... My brothers are in engineering and IT, my sisters are in social care and retail... and you know what, they all enjoy their jobs!

Like I said earlier, contact the Prince's Trust. You sound like the perfect candidate, and if you use the link below, you'll see that they are affiliated with over 60 football and can arrange coaching, talks with players and work placements among other things – ideal for someone who just wants to play football all day!

    *******

    Have you contacted them yet?!

I just meant that no-one's deathbed words ever are 'I wish I'd spent more time at the office'.

I too know plenty of people who love their jobs. I liked my last one, but there are other things I like more.

I think if you have a vocation it may be different. The Pastor of our church in the UK is retiring in January at the age of 70. When I told my son he just shook his head and said, 'mum, he won't be able to retire. You can only retire from a job, not from who you are'. In this man's case this is absolutely true. He IS a pastor (shepherd) and no matter how old he is he will always be ready to help and counsel people. He will just not be getting paid to do it.

But I do think that if it is ONLY a job, then yes, although you can enjoy it, it is not and never can be your whole life.

    )
(Edited to add) Although I think the Prince's Trust is an excellent institution you still need to be prepared to work very hard to be successful in your own business and the OP says he doesn't want to do that. He needs an attitude change really before he will be successful anywhere.

The title of this thread shouldn't be "I'm unemployable" it should be "I'm a waste of space"

The Government should clamp down hard on people like you.
  • hmm i've seemed to upset a lot of people. i didnt realize there were so many right-winged people. can i just add, it's not the law to work mind. but i am actually looking for work this time, so im not cheating the system.
yes my anxiety in the 1st job was terrbile. everytime i went out in a public place i'd get dizzy and have panic attacks. so what did you think i felt thrown onto a till in xmas month confussed and with thousands of customers! my head was spinning and i couldnt wait to go home but i forced myself to stay. however one night i was working there it all built up too much and i actually fainted on the till. i was too embaressed to go back, but i did for a couple of shifts then quit. i felt so pathetic.
im also very underweight and i have hypoglycemia so i need to keep eating every two hours at least. so if i was to have a 4 hour shift i wouldnt be allowed to have a break. i'd start to worry about fainting which would bring a panic attack on. i have to carry lucozade tablets on me just in case. i have fainted a few times playign football too. so basically its put me off working as im in fear it will happen again.
also my father has stuffered from depression and my mother is suffering from stress/anxiety. i've watched them suffer over the years, and complain about their lives and jobs so its really put me off. my father talks about is job as if it was a jail sentencte, writting off the days. i wouldnt say we're poor, but we're below average. i just have a negative attitude towards things. im sorry i've upset a few people with my comments.
no i dont have to pay any bills, the only thing i have to pay is to top up my phone £5 a week. it's not like im spoilt and had it easy.
im not motivated by money, i have something against capitalism.

1.if you want peoples sympathy dont insult them first.
    2. if your not motivated by money then go and work in a charity shop get some experience.
    3. if your hypoglycimic then any employer will allow you to have sufficent time to take medicines etc you only have to ask , if your honest up front

    4. im sorry i got angry with you but you have not mentioned any of the above in your first post and to be honest i would love to be able to work even for an hour a day but i never know what im going to feel like each day and how bad the pain will be .

You may find in the coming years that capitalism has something against you...

See that roof above your head - it's put there by your parents, who may not like their jobs, but still do them because they have to

Don't like working for a living? Welcome to the club, lots of people don't like it, but it's a necessity of life.

I think you just might be unemployable

Conscription or National Service isn't the answer. Hard working servicemen don't want to be lumbered with lazy, self centred numpties.

However there is no reason why a form of community service couldn't be introduced, that way they can be paid their unemployment benefit. They could do 15 hours a week.
I think they'd soon jump at the chance of a job paying £5.52 an hour

15 hours a week? As a taxpayer I'd like my money's worth... try a 60 hour week. After all, a 60 hour week from someone on long term benefits is only going to result in something like 20 hours of actual work.

Thought about a career in the military, not neccassarily as a soldier but in a traded profession, engineering, electronics etc?

I would probably try and keep the other jobs quiet as next time you go in for an interview, they may deem you unsuitable due to the fact you haven't managed to hold down a job previously. I.e, why would they risk you starting with them only for you to leave them a couple of months later?

Not sure how you would get round the P46 issue and reference with that though?

You'd only have to hand in your P45's to a new employer if they are from employment in the same tax year. Basically, anything dated from April 2008 to now. Anything before that they don't need to know about. You'd just fill out the P46 to state it was your first employment in this tax year, and that would be it.

Personally, I wouldn't bother mentioning your last 2 jobs. I worked in HR for a while, and any job that was left in less than a month didn't have any relevance anyway.

Have you tried your local Connexions? Always a good source of info if you're not sure where you want to go or what you want to do. Good luck!
  • Yes many comments are right winged and to be honest, this is how things are turning now. People are getting sick of carrying people through the benefit systems when it's meant to be an aid to society, not a life time cashmachine. Wait and see how more and more people become right wing until the benefits system literally does just stop one day.

You might be against capitalism and have bad opinions of work from what you've seen. But you aren't going to get above average sitting on the benefit system. You are just going to end up like your parents if you dont sort yourself out.

Being below average should make you want to strive to do better than your parents and then maybe you can help pull them out of their hole, not give up. Lifes tough for plenty of people but they just have no choice but to get on with it. What would happen tomorrow if your father got hit by a bus? As the now grown up child, whose now meant to be an adult, would you be able to help your mother? Pay the bills? Cover the funeral costs? Maybe if you sort yourself out, you can actually make things easier for your parents by bringing money in to the household which would improve their lives as well as yours.

Think you need to pull your finger out and just get on with it. If you pass out, you pass out. At least you'll be there giving it ago.

Funny that....can play football and tennis without issue even wants to coach...yet can't handle a 4 hour shift. Either a troll or just lazy
Sooner or later his parents will get sick of him and kick him out-and his girlfriend will be long gone before then -as he only needs £5 for his phone and nothing else-I guess she'll be off with a man who will actually take her out LOL
If a job is required -go and work in a leisure centre -you never know they might even help you get qualifications too (in coaching not rally driving-I think if you faint under stress rally driving might not be a recommended career somehow !!) once you've proved yourself to be a valuable member of their team. You play football-you understand about being a team player-right ?
My son's 17 -he too has a disability-and is taking A levels-he reckons HE has the disability -the disability doesn't have HIM !! Thank God he isn't like you !!!
