  • Just one comment to make and that's if you last job was in July / August 2007 your P45 will be irrelevant as we are now in a different tax year so all you would need to say to your new employer is that you don't have a P45 for this year.

    I think you are genuinely honest and have admitted (and I assume learned from) your "mistakes". This will go a long way to you getting a new job. My advice is to honest with any new employer about your previous jobs and say that you have learned that you have to carry out all duties of a role regardless of what they are - you will then gain experience of what you really do want out of a job.

    Good luck
  • I see that you are in Wales, here are some schemes in your area:

    What qualifications have you left the Sixth Form with?

    It sounds like you need a boost of motivation and help with a CV.

    ok i did my GCSE's and i got:
    Eng lang = C
    eng lit = C
    maths = C
    science = C
    history = B
    italian = D
    Leisure & tourism = BB
    geography = c

    then i went to college (becasue my school didnt got tourism a level) to do tourism but i quit that in 2 weeks becasue it was too far, terrible timetable and i was the only boy in my calss :S. becasue originally i wanted to be a holiday rep, but after that college disaster i lost all my motivation and came back to sith form just to be with my friends.
    i then took geography, history and media studies for the sake of it.
    at the begining of the second year i dropped out of history becasue it was too hard, then i dropped out of media a few months later becasue i only took it to be with my friends and i wasnt trying. i managed to finish off geog, half trying and came out with a grade.
    so my A levels are:
    Geography = D
    AS level media = E

    complete waste of time really. so now im sitting here in the house everyday depressed, and cant get a job. but to be honest im only getting a job so my girlfriend will stay with me.

    Don't panic :D so you got good GCSEs, and most first time jobs are looking for a C in Maths and English so that's sorted.

    I had to retake my maths GCSE in sixth form (which I finally passed) and I took A levels in English Lit got a "D" and Home Economics (don't ask me why) and got an "E". I took media too for about 2 weeks, hated it.

    I thought the same, waste of two years of my life etc etc. Parents weren't thrilled, and found it difficult to drag myself out of bed.

    While you are still 18 really push to get on a free training course/apprenticeship scheme honestly it will give you a fresh motivation.

    If you need help with your CV give me a yell, I'm quite good at doing things like that.

    I have worked my way up to PA for Directors / Office Manager and on my CV my two crap A levels are just put down as 2 A level passes which they are (just not very good ones).

    It can be difficult to get the first proper job and I do sympathise, but you WILL get one I can guarentee.

    Hey I don't think it is true about just getting a job because of your girlfriend, you don't wanna be unemployed all your life, your GCSE results prove that you are hardworking and can achieve when you put your mind to it...so there ;)

    thanks :) . well i've grown so used to having all this free time that i dont want it to change. although, i havnt got hardly any money to do anything and i not really moving forward i suppose. i just dont want to start at the bottom, i just have a childish attitude that i just want to walk into the place and become the manager stright away. i dont like having people telling me what to do. and the two jobs i've had i've been working with idiots, no offense. i also dont see the point of getting a job unless it will make me rich.
    i did want to set my own buisness up but i got put off becasue you have to put too much time into it and no 1 is going to gaive an 18 year old a £100,000 loan or something anyway so theres no point trying.
    the only motivation i have is to become a football coach, but theres no chance of me becoming a professional and getting payed for it. oh and my other dream is to be a rally driver :) . im aiming too high all the time arnt i?
  • I would mention at least one of the other jobs and say that you left because it was interfering with your studies. Explain that because you left after such a short time you don't wish to use them as a referee but put another workplace employer instead - maybe gained through doing some voluntary work. Also provide a character reference from someone (not family or family by marriage) who has known you for several years ( a teacher, social worker, local government officer, priest/faith leader etc).

    My son left one job on bad terms with his employer; he mentioned this job on his CVs but said he was unable to ask that person for a reference and provided the name and number of the tutor in a training centre where he had undertaken a course and then afterwards done recent voluntary work. He also provided a former employer and a teacher he knows who also used to be his church youth leader.

    I'm sure you'll be fine if you have learned your lesson that nearly everyone has to start at the bottom and that if you don't like your job it is always easier to get another one while you are in work rather than unemployed.

    Good luck.

    (edited to add: I've seen your post above and unless you get a bit of reality in your life and realise that you ARE going to be on minimum wage doing boring jobs for at least a while, and that you will nearly always 'work with idiots' then you are going to get nowhere. Your work MAY make you rich one day. It won't straight away - and it certainly won't if you don't have a job. Even the guy who founded IKEA started off selling matches door to door. Mr Marks and Mr Spencer started off as penniless immigrants doing menial jobs. Eddie Stobart started off as a delivery driver. You need to be far more realistic and willing to learn from others and that means getting on with whatever you are told to do with a smile on your face).

    You will get bored with all the free time honestly, especially when all your mates get jobs and are buying flash cars etc you will be pretty peed off.

    LOL I'm afraid it's life and a bit !!!! sometimes to be honest, I love my job but it is never gonna make me really rich, but I can afford my own place, a car, and still to go out with my mates.

    I have worked for some complete to**ers and some of my jobs I have hated, but once you are in employment you make loads more friends, and you are a "someone" even the most boring jobs are important, and are normally the ones you can have the most laughs with colleagues.

    But your first job will just be a stepping stone so no you won't get rich but you will gain experience and will move on to another job which could make you rich.

    Once you are earning good money then look into setting up your own business, you are only 18 you have plenty of time to be a millionaire yet.

    Why don't you train to be an apprentice in a trade, builder, plumber, working with cars etc so that once you finish training you can go off and work on your own without a boss breathing down your neck.

    You actually sound like my hubby, he doesn't get on with management at all, started off working on a farm, then did a lot of long distance driving, then was a porter, now he is self employed taxi driver (so own boss) and loves it.
    He would really have loved to have played professional footy or set up a rally car centre, but had to be realistic.

    It is ok to have dreams but unfortunetely sometimes reality bites you on the butt.

    Everyone has started at the bottom but it doesn't take long to climb the career ladder, everyone has to work with idiots on the way. Experience is just as valuable as qualifications.

    What do your folks do?

    The big problem is that, like many young people, you're not willing to start at the bottom and work your way up. NO ONE gets to walk into a top paying job with no qualifications, skills or experience. And even when you have got qualifications, it's not easy.

    You say you don't see the point of having a job unless you get rich from it, but on the other hand you're getting depressed sitting at home doing nothing...

    Have you considered contacting the Prince's Trust? They run free courses for 16-25 year olds, offering work experience, qualifications, skills, residential weeks etc. They also offer short courses with a view to getting into something like the construction industry (you could do worse than become a plumber – they earn HUGE money!). And, if you're serious about running a business the Prince's Trust can help with mentoring and funding...They are definitely worth checking out!
    And you never know, you may even find something you enjoy!

    If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.

    Sorry to be harsh,but seems to me like you`re wasting your life away:eek:
