I received a letter from the headoffice after sending the shoes away to them:

....................Im sorry you feel the shoes you recently bought ere not of the quality you expect from us. ...Having examined the shoes, I agree that they should not scuff as easily as they appear to have done.

We try very hard to provide products of the best possible quality. We only use suppliers that can meet our hight standards and we regularly inspect them.

Please let me reassure you that I've told our suppliers about your complaint. I'm sure they'll make changes to this product that they feel are requires.

    I have enclose your refund.............

I feel like taking this letter to the store manager who refused the refund and say 'HA HA' i got it. LOL

it would have been easier if she just gave the refund, the whole process took about 2 week

    thanx for all the help
  • Well done. I've a feeling I may have bought the same shoes as you, as my daughters did exactly the same thing. Again our Tesco store manager said bascially "Hard Luck!" when I complained and accused my daughter of riding her bike in them and using them as brakes. - That may be what the damage looks like but all she did was go to school.

I'll try going to Head office now, so thanks for letting us know of your result.

you could address it to 'Jill Connell' who I originally sent the shoes out to but the response was sent on her behalf by 'Geraldine Martin'...........hope this helps
  • Last year I got my son some really expensive ones from Startrite - they lasted 3 days (they were the type with the stitching and seam around the toes), as the stitching came undone, took them back to the dealer I bought them from and they refused to change them, just said they'd send them back to startrite to see what they said - they had them for about 5 weeks (had to send my son to school in some doodles for that time!!), then said 'sorry, but there's nothing wrong with the quality of the shoe' and my shoes were returned to the store - not a sorry, or a goodwill gesture or anything!!

Now only go to Clarks, and the shoes with the smooth toe, rather than the seem.
  • If you don't get anywhere with tesco go to Trading Standards. Look on your local council's website for contacts. All the advice about fit for purpose is correct.

My six year old DD kicked the toes completely out her Clarks shoes in two days flat, basically by using them as brakes when she was climbing down walls. £25, argh! Nothing to do with the quality, all to do with her. I wish I HAD bought her Tesco shoes, it would have saved me money!

(I threatened to make her wear her brother's old school shoes if she did it again, btw. Somehow her brother could make shoes last till outgrown, even with playground football. That stopped her climbing walls, lol. She went onto shredding a pair of tights per day instead. Anywhere sell full body armour for schoolkids?)

I bought some shoes for myself in the clarks sale last year and they started falling apart after 6 weeks. I took them back and although the manager agreed that they must have been defective and allowed me to have a refund. The cheeky so and so did say that i must have sweaty feet that must have caused the shoes to fall apart!! i replied that no other shoes have ever done that before so the shoes must have been wholly to blame. unfortunately the replacement pair of shoes that i had to buy at full price the sole is coming away like a pair i had before. i don't think that i would pay clarks prices for shoes anymore as they do not seem to last like they used to.

I bought black court shoes in M&S for myself earlier this year. The shoes are wearing fine apart from the fact that the leather has stretched and the shoes now flop off me.

  • Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. the manager I spoke to made me feel low too and even when I rang thehead of customer service who then rang her, she said the same thing. I feel that she is stubborn and will not go ahead with it or say something to make me feel low again even if she goes ahead with the exchange after I ask for the details regarding the small court claims situation.

    Thanx

When this happens always make sure, politely, you have got the names of the protagonists. Write a polite letter of complaint to their local head office and make sure it is clearly marked; Copy sent to.............(whoever the managing director is. you can usually get this on the internet.)

most times they will at least offer a credit note.
:o Keep trying.........................what else is there to do? :o
