Tesco school shoes lasts 6 year old a day - help?

My 6 year old lil girl came from school with her shoes slightly torn or scraped id say from the front. She only worn them to school for a day. took them back to Tesco CS and manager said its wear and tear. I mean shes only 6 and she has worn shoes before and they have never come as bad as these. I have asked around and also my friend whos a manager at a shoe shop says a day is not a resonable lenght of time to be classified under a wear and tear. any recoomendations please?

same thing happended to me after 6 hoursworth of wear and tear, I took them back to Tesco and got a different pair for my 8 year old.
  • i would email tescos head office
  • Definitely contact Head Office - I had the same problem with some shoes from Marks & Sparks when my son was about 8. The shoes were about 6 weeks oold but one had worn considerably more than the other. Admittedly I got myself worked up before I went in so that i could burst into tears when I needed to (and it worked!) but I was convinced it was a manufacturing fault. Shoes for kids that age should be made to tolerate use by kids of that age!

If it is too deep to polish out then I would consider it a fault.

you can not polish it away. it is actually torn, could actually see all the layers it is made from. I did not like the way the manager said to me it wear and tear, she would just not listn to what I had to say, I mean I do know my rights aswell and even after the ringing the headoffice customer service who rang her on my behalf, she said the same thing to them. I am now writting a letter to them as there is no email address on the website. Any advice on what I could write?

    Thanx
  • Tell them the facts - that is all that is needed in this case. Be a good idea to include a close up picture of the faulty area too. When I complain I always start with praise, if you can, praise a pair of shoes you have had from them before or you could say something like your daughter was absolutely thrilled with her new shoes and excited about wearing them (this would also insinuate that she would be careful with them), you could also say that she was really upset when you met her from school because her new shoes were "broken".

It might also be worth going on to say that you thought you were buying something of good quality as it had the Tesco name behind it and you were shocked to see that the quality was not what it should have been. Tell them that shoes like that normally last your daughter X weeks/months (might be worth saying how long they usually last here) and you did not expect to be faced with buying new shoes after 1 day. Also ask them if they can assure you of the quality of the shoes and would you have the same problem if you bought them again.

If you have to return them to someone make sure you get a receipt and keep plenty of photos.

    thanx...dat was very helpfull
  • My daughter's tesco shoes were the same after a day or two. To be honest, lesson learnt, £7 or whatever they were for a day, clarks outlet village £18 until the feet grow too big. Vote with your feet(!) and don't buy shoes there again, I'm not!!

Surely the sale of goods act says that goods should be, "fit for purpose". It says nothing about it being ok for things bought cheaply to fall to bits quickly.

I would take this further, does not matter whether you paid £7 or £70 - shoes for kids should last way longer than this, especially when bought from a 'reputable' retailer like tesco.

    Dont be fobbed off.

Tesco shoes are terrible quality - my daughter thinks she's Imelda Marcos, so a treat for her is a cheap pair of shoes - but never from Tesco because they fall apart so quickly!

I took a pair back to Next after 6 weeks once, the heels had worn down and everything (boys shoes not girls!), they cost me £27 and they were the worst shoes he's ever had.

After that I tried a pair from Tesco and they lasted at least 6 months, which is good for my son!
If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in :D
