I'm starting to appreciate my hubby more and more... he thinks I'm nuts for thinking about christmas any earlier than december but he'd never say anything unsupportive! I guess he might be scared that this year he'd have to buy more presents than just mine ;)
He puts up with my whims and fancies... he knows what I'm like and leaves me to it. After all I don't nag him daily about spending too much time on the xbox and so it works well :)
I'll be about 4 months pregnant by Christmas who lord only knows what we'll do then as as we're going I'll be fancying fresh fruit, porridge and smoked salmon fillets and the christmas duck will have gone right out of the window ;)

I've been planning Xmas presents and making stuff to give for a few months and my OH thinks I've lost the plot but humours me most of the time and occasionally surprises me with a "that's actually really nice" comment! Unbeknown to him I've planned everyone's presents, already bought or made most of them, bought his and bought bits for our two boys.

My aim was firstly to save money and secondly for eveyone to receive nice presents from us that are not run-of-the-mill and can't be easily picked up in a shop. This board has been fantastic in helping me achieve this. I've made flannel cupcakes, flannel reindeer, yule logs, bath salts in jars, journal jars, 365 facts in jars, door hangers, cross stitch picture, cross stitch coasters, bought plain calendars and stuck own photos on... Other things I'm planning are old-fashioned sweetie caddies, hot chocolate or coffee in a mug (mug with chocolate/coffee sachets and a handmade coaster).

If you'd like any more detail about any of this please let me know, all ideas have been nicked/discussed on this board!

    Good luck.

your husband and mine may well be twins, they sound exactly the same !!!!!
but i bet he still goes out the weekend before xmas to buy extra shop brought gifts for his family!!!!

Congratulations Tine, I didn't know you were expecting... Looks like we'll be in it together!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

  • I do all the xmas shopping myself, thats how I deal with it.My OH,s most used word is NO.I know if I ask about anything or suggest anything he will say NO so I dont bother asking or talking about gifts at all.I even have to choose and buy the gifts for his mum,dad and sister which is really annoying,he should do that.I guess that if you enjoy choosing gifts and shopping then why not do it yourself,I just wish he would show SOME interest. He does buy my gift,at least I think he does, maybe he gets his mum to do that?

he was 100% behind me last year when I did hampers, don't know quiet what has gotten into himto be honest. He knows i always go the extra mile for gifts and them being appreciated means the world to me, he should know i won't do it if i don't think it would be used or appreciated.

I have decide to just go for it with some ideas , I've also realized that I have seen things on here and just described them to him so he really doesnt appreciate how good they can look.

Sometimes you have to be selective with your hand made gifts though. There was a young girl in our office, pregnant with her first baby, and I 'unbeknowns to her' began knitting what i thought was a fairly contemporary baby layette. i overheard one day telling a friend how she was not going to put her baby in any of that 'knitted stuff' but wanted stretchy baby gros,t-shirts and sweaters only. I decided from then on only to make for those I knew appreciated the time and effort......

OMG that could have been me when having my little one. MIL was planning on knitting me a whole wardrobe unless DH slipped in the fact I dont like knitted items and prefer cotton baby clothes. Handmade items can be lovely, as long as the receipiant will like them.

I dont have the time to handmake presents but just because I buy all my presents doesnt mean that I havent put any thought or effort into them.

LOL I feel a bit weird after reading this thread! With all the different relationships I've been in, I always get my side of the family, and my partner that I'm with sorts their side, that way you get what you feel like getting them and pay as much as you want.

If I was you Jane I'd go ahead with what you want to do and if he wants bought he can go get it all sorted out :D Personally I think your bouquet idea is totally awesome and extremely more thoughtful than some impersonal bought thing that someone else could have as well ;);)

I guess I'm lucky having Godders as he just let's me get on with whatever I want to make................keeps out of trouble after all :rotfl:I think his only problem with it al is the mess and strage of stuff cos our house is really small!!

  • Making pot-pourri from the bridesmaid flowers is an absolutely beautiful idea. You probably know your sister far better than OH does anyway.

Just carry on as you are. Most people who a close to you will much prefer something that you have done/made for them than something that doesnt mean anything.

My OH never used to understand me when it came to christmas, when i started to buy things early and get prepared and excited for it :)

He is now coming round. Although he still buys his presents relatively close to christmas, he doesnt take the mick out of me and he understands why I do it.

For mothers day i made a coffee hamper for his mum with a cafetiere, a selection of lovely fresh coffees (from sains) with some nice biscuits. My mum got a pamper hamper.

They were both thrilled with them and were really loved the fact that i had gone out of my way to make them instead of just getting some vouchers which doesnt take much thought...
