No I haven't. Columbo looks pretty good so I'm happy... I only picked up the 40V on Saturday so haven't had the time nor the inclination to fiddle with the settings yet. Although I have had my KDL-32D3000 for about a year and have never changed the settings on it either.

The setup is all down to personal preference. Different people like different things so you may want to have a look and see if somebody else has some different suggestions that may be more to your taste.

We used to have a CRT that had a button with which you could keep pressing to get differing set ups. Shame modern LCD's don't have this as I am not sure I want to fiddle but I only got mine yesterday -- still time to twiddle and tweak!:rotfl:

  • I found out of the box my Sony was far too bright and had a lot of blooming on the picture. Although not perfect, I picked up Digital Video Essentials DVD from HMV for £5 and it has some guides and charts to calibrate the screen to a decent setting. After spending half an hour or so doing it, the picture is now perfect for me.

The main thing is that any settings you change will need a little bit of time for you to get used too, mine seemed dull and jaded when I first changed them but because I knew they were meant to look like this I stuck with it. Now, when I tried the old ones just to see what they were like, nearly ingrained the picture on the back of my corneas it was that bright.

It's a good investment if you can't, or don't want to pay for a professional calibration.

Well I bought one - a Sony Bravio 32" and from the shop I visited a few days ago. Today they weren't so busy and the young man very patiently rewired to show me NONE HD stuff. Set up, at home, earlier and looking good but I am sure I will need to tweak some of the settings!!!! Probably take me all weekend!

Thanks all for your help.

Nice one! How much did you get yours for? I got mine from Hanna & Browne over here in Northern Ireland for £680. Probably not the best deal but we're kind of limited as a lot of the internet places who offer good deals won't ship outside of mainland UK.

Hi, I got it for £739 with Free delivery and Free 5 Year Guarantee.

I could of picked it up for cheaper but I felt the 5 Year Guarantee is worth the extra couple of quid and John Lewis seem to have a good reputation if any problems arise.

It was cheaper than all the high street retailers. The cheaper online retailers (and I had not heard of half of them) whilst there initial price was cheap, around £650 mark, charged something between £200-£300 for a 5 year guarantee :eek:and some delivery on top, some charging upto £40-50 Delivery or their standard delivery was 28days so that you pay £50-£60 to upgrade:rolleyes:

So weighing it up I am reckon I got a good deal and should have it Monday.:D
