What do you need to pay for 32" LCD TV

Absolutely yes. Pretty much all of the TV's will look pretty awesome when showing HD content but let's face it, the other 98% of the time you'll be watching normal SD television.
Have a good look round all of your local TV retailers to find ones that will show you SD content on their TV's. Make a note of the one you like the best and then go and find it for the best price.
That was one of the things that sold me on the model I ended up buying at John Lewis, they had the shop floor model running from a normal aerial rather than HD, along many of the others models - i guess either they didn't want the cost of running hd connections to all the models in the store, or realised that most people will still be using them with SD sources.0 -
I have been looking for motion blur but saw none on the Sonys but wondered whether motion blur was less likely with HD - anyone help on this?
A certain amount of the motion blur is caused by the MPEG video compression used in digital TV transmissions. You'll see a blocky image following fast moving objects or the edge between a light and dark colour won't be very defined. You can't do anything about this. As a side rant, I have noticed the quality of Sky transmissions getting worse over the years as they turn the quality down to get more channels in.
The other factor in motion blur is in the TV itself and this is where you can help yourself. When a TV receives a normal SD signal it has to process it to be displayed on its HD display. Some TV's do this well and some not so well. I have compared my Sony to a Samsung and the Sony BRAVIA Engine does this very well indeed.
Edit: Is motion blur less likely on HD content? Yes it is. With the high quality video signal, the TV doesn't have to fill in the gaps like it does with an SD signal.0 -
Well I bought one - a Sony Bravio 32" and from the shop I visited a few days ago. Today they weren't so busy and the young man very patiently rewired to show me NONE HD stuff. Set up, at home, earlier and looking good but I am sure I will need to tweak some of the settings!!!! Probably take me all weekend!

Great news, what model did you end up getting?
If you're looking to do some 'tweaking' to get the best results then have a search for your model number on http://www.avforums.com/. Those guys are seriously into that sort of thing and you can be pretty sure somebody's already been through it with your TV and has posted their recommended settings.0 -

Nothing of the sort. In fact I have just bought the KDL-40V4000 and am very happy with it.
I read elsewhere it is important to tweak the settings but I have tried what they say and don't like the resultant picture so reset to default? Have you tried any tweaks that you feel imporve the picture.A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. No I haven't. Columbo looks pretty good so I'm happy... I only picked up the 40V on Saturday so haven't had the time nor the inclination to fiddle with the settings yet. Although I have had my KDL-32D3000 for about a year and have never changed the settings on it either.
The setup is all down to personal preference. Different people like different things so you may want to have a look and see if somebody else has some different suggestions that may be more to your taste.0
