One other query is that I see most, if not all, the TV's on show are showing a HD picture so am I in order to ask them to show it me without the HD feed?

Absolutely yes. Pretty much all of the TV's will look pretty awesome when showing HD content but let's face it, the other 98% of the time you'll be watching normal SD television.

Have a good look round all of your local TV retailers to find ones that will show you SD content on their TV's. Make a note of the one you like the best and then go and find it for the best price.
  • I know you wanted a 32inch but Richer Sounds were advertising a Philips 37 inch for £400 recently and you can add 5 year warantee for £40.

the sonys, samsungs, hitachis and the panasonics are all pretty good.
dont buy another brand, esp own brands, unless you get a personal recommendation.

I would remove Hitachi from that list, they don't actually make TV's, only rebadge cheap stuff from other suppliers.

Eighteen months ago I bought one from Dabs for £350, for the bedroom, but was appalled at the poor picture. Mainly what I call motion blurring when objects moving around the picture.

Have TVs like this improved in the last 18 months and what would I need to pay to get one with an acceptable picture. When I asked 18 months ago I was told over £1,000 which is more than the benefit would be worth.
There are many TV's that will give you great performance and pictures. Find a dvd movie that has a lot of action, fast sequences etc and take it with you to the / a shop that has the TV you are interested in and tell them you want to see your dvd played on the TV's you are interested in. If they are deserving of your money they will play your dvd on the display models so you can look at the motion response etc. If they are not willing to accommodate buy somewhere else.

Absolutely, and very important, some panels display great HD, but !!!! standard def. This is a great time to be shopping, money is short, sales are precious. You should make sure the product suits your needs, if the staff will not accommodate you buy somewhere else. Before you go, scroll through Sky and find a few channels that have no HD version, and ask them to play those channels, don't let them pick a channel, and tell you "This is standard def" otherwise they gonna show you sky 1 HD and say tht's HD then show yo BBc HD and say that's standard def.

When we sent the Dabs LCD back we bought a Phillips 28" CRT which we still have a like you feel the pic and sound are really good. We are looking to put this in another room ad at getting a new TV for our bedroom.

We had seen a 32" CRT with a good picture which wasn't cheap but the weight!!!!!

Well I accept your advice and will be getting a Sony but not much luck today going round some shops as all to busy. Asked one small shop if they could show me with SD feed but they said if I came back during the week they would but too busy today to faff about!!!

I have been looking for motion blur but saw none on the Sonys but wondered whether motion blur was less likely with HD - anyone help on this?
