I would advise reading back through all the thread and making sure you've followed every bit of advice, for instance did you look at the websites I posted?

Those aren't nasties as I recall but unknowns one was your AC97 sound driver.

Rikki has AVG (working fine)

I have followed the advice in Fran's post 58.
Reset internet protocol(TCP/IP)
Re-registered the .dll files.

Still no access to secure sites. :mad:

I would try reinstalling/repairing Internet Explorer.

Yes to java.

Unable to get the windows updates manually. It says misconfigured proxy/firewall. Update error.......... 0x80072EFD. It gives new settings. How do I apply them?

Without wishing to appear too flippant or unhelpful - it might be quicker Rikki to just back up what you need and reinstall windows! Bearing in mind how long you've spent trying to solve this problem... know what it's like spending ages trying to locate/fix an annoying error..and if this was my problem I'd have reformatted by now.

When all else has failed there's nothing like a good reinstall to get everything up and running as it should be.

....or take up telephone banking instead
