Bearing in mind how long you've spent trying to solve this problem... know what it's like spending ages trying to locate/fix an annoying error..and if this was my problem I'd have reformatted by now.
When all else has failed there's nothing like a good reinstall to get everything up and running as it should be.
....or take up telephone banking instead
I'm fine with telephone banking. It just that I can't get on any secure part of any web site.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

That needs to be green ticked, it should show as Generic Host process in the list of allowed/disallowed programs in your firewall.0 -

This is on a firewall that has only just been installed.
It is the windows firewall that caused the problem first.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Did it?
Do you mean it used to work and then suddenly stopped?
How do you know it was the firewall that caused the problem?
Or did the firewall just start blocking access?
I'll ask again ..... please update your first post with the original symptons, whether https ever worked, which OS and browser you use and what you've attempted so far. That'll help anyone who can assist and save them wading through the thread.0 -
Fixed it.
After hours of effort and patience.

After hours of going round in circles managed to get them deleted.
This enabled me to be able to access additional spyware sites, download, install and run alternative scans turning up another nasty. Googled and found a way to rid the computer of it.
Last step now is to be able to access the secure parts of web sites and my accounts.
Took your advice fran and read through all the web sites you posted. Found the one from Techspot.com and worked my way through the process.
I then tried to update windows manually and it gave me the error message.0x80072EDF.
Googled 0x80072EDF followed all the suggestions.
Then removed my other firewall. Removed all traces of unused norton firewall.
which left only the windows firewall.
I then successfully managed to updated the windows firewall and I could log onto secure sites.
The next step was to reinstall my sygate firewall. No problems and I could access secure sites.
Touch wood. Everything is ok. :T£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
