Hijackthis found 4 nasties and ewido some too.
After hours of going round in circles managed to get them deleted.
This enabled me to be able to access additional spyware sites, download, install and run alternative scans turning up another nasty. Googled and found a way to rid the computer of it.
Last step now is to be able to access the secure parts of web sites and my accounts.
