what a d*ck!
i hope you get your money back! 0 -
Hes not answering his phone or replying to texts - The police have been useless!0

Oh for crying out loud............name and shame him.
If you have his cheque , then you will be able to get his details. Banks don't like fraudsters anymore than we do.
And sorry, but just because you were daft enough to pay £2K for a laptop 2 years ago doesn't mean anyone would think it a bargain to pay £900 today, so no I personally don't think he got a bargain(well he did if he didn't pay for it!)
I paid £800 last year for a laptop that you can get for £350 today brand new not second hand.
ps. my guarantee card is good for £2500 -
If he were a fraudster why would he:
A. Use an account in his real name?
B. Bother to write the wrong date knowing it is a bogus account, closed account or only guaranteed to 1/9 of the value he was writing it for?
Maybe he did just write the wrong date.
Definitely pay it in and see what happens.
PS. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!!!!!0 -

If this was happening to me, I would take a photocopy of the cheque (front and back) and then cash it.
If it bounced I would then go back to the police.
Presenting a cheque which you know is going to bounce and then taking someone else's property may constitute obtaining property by deception (or evading liability by deception) and you should tell the police this, if they are still unhelpful (you could even refer them to www.cps.gov.uk/legal/section8/chapter_a.html#27)
It would be extremely easy for the police to find this person if they wanted to do so. You could probably do it yourself if you really wanted to by use of a service like 192.com, particularly if they have an unusual name.0 -
Everyone is assuming that the cheque book and card actually belong to this conman. He could have stolen the card / book / supporting ID.
