Thanks going2die_rich - You seem like a nice guy.
I dont have much evidence other then a cheque and a mobile number - I have no idea where he lives so I dont think they will do much0 -
Personally, i would take it in to his bank. They should be able to advise on what they can do and possibly if the account is still open.
As for going to the police, i would say this is definately fraud and that he should be charged for it.
Edit: If you have a cheque, you will have the branch sort code so may know the area he lives in if it is a local branch. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

A guess you just have to hope he gets hit by a bus then. As I don't think you'll see the latop or money.
You just have to learn from your mistake and move on.0 -
Change the 7 into an 8. :P
(You didn't hear that from me)0 -
Does anyone know how you cross reference a card with the cheque book.
ie - If you open an account, get a cheque book and then close the account, and then open a new account how do you ensure the cheque book ties up?0 -

The account No should match. Plus the signature of courseThis is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -
The name and sort-code should match the cheque and the card should be in date and not expired. The account number isn't always shown on a chq guarantee card, mine certainly isn't.
Before a bank closes a current account, they should get the cheque book and card returned to them. They certainly did when I worked for one but it may have changed since then.
It wouldn't have made any difference anyway, cheque guarantee cards have limits and don't cover cheques of £900.

Checked mine it's a maestro debit / guarantee card the account No is the last 8 digits of the 16 digit accross the front. Straight guarantee cards possibly different. The sort code only proves that both accounts are with the same branch. Likewise the name only proves that both accounts are (or were) in the same name. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0
