My bit of feedback on KLM to the US (for what it's worth!).....

Did BHX-AMS-IAD over new year from Expedia UK. £292 each return. Not cheap, but not extortionate for that time - and no cost of parking at Heathrow! Was strange to be flying back over Brum though!

Anyway, the service was fine and the food edible. Gate security at AMS meant we couldn't take water on the AMS-IAD sector though.

Our problem was the return AMS-BHX flight! When we arrived at Schiphol, the board announced it had been cancelled! The man on the transit desk said we had been rescheduled via Paris! After a few heated words, he finally got us on the later AMS-BHX flight - 3 hours later. Ended up in 'premium' class! Also got some vouchers for a meal, telephone calls and free flyer miles. AND a leaflet on our entitlement for compensation!!!

VERY interesting reading as it wasn't something I was expert in at that time! But a quick telephone call when we were back home confirmed the cancellation had been very late - in fact the email was sent to me at 3 a.m. that day as we were halfway across the Atlantic! So we finally got €250 (£224) each. Made for an even cheaper holiday than the .au bookings after all!
