I know what is wrong with me. It’s a shame we don’t know what is wrong with you!
PS if you have any problems reading the above ask a grown up to help;)

No spelling mistakes!
Well done!
Big gold star!
You're really coming along.
You'll be able to differentiate between long words like 'lose' and 'loose' soon!
You mum will be so proud!0 -
So how come you didn't buy during this period, if it was so easy?
Can't answer for her, but in my case, I was aged 12 - 16 at that time....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

It has always been difficult to afford to buy a house, whether it was in the 70s, 80s, 90s or 00s
Ha! Ha!
It wasn’t difficult for those guys with the 125% sub prime mortgages, they were quite easy to get.
I have brought properties throughout all the decades you mention, so I put this to you.
A big factor throughout all this time has been the ever increasing multiples of wage ratio you could borrow. This, has caused these massive and false equity bubbles. I had friends lose houses in the early nineties because of the crash, you may have benefited from that as you say you purchased then, why did you buy then? Was it because it was more affordable, as these ratios had dropped (good decision) or did you buy late on when prices were higher and not so affordable (not so good decision). What ratio did you buy at?
Of course buying a house is expensive but there are times when it is cheaper to buy, one of those times will be coming up when this cycle is finished.
With this being a money saving forum I suggest if anyone is thinking of buying now, weigh up your options and hold fire, because contrary to what this guy thinks it will be easier on your wallet.Control is an illusion, chaos is the reality. A successful warrior dances with chaos, and success means simply that one is still alive.0 -

This is spot on. Another couple of factors: the BTL mortgage for any old Tom, !!!!!! and Harry who fancied themselves a bit of 'Free' money and an easy, work free life and have found that, quite the contrary, there is nothing 'free' about it. (Let's face it, if you can't do your sums, you shouldn't be in business :-).
Also, the old 'buy cheap, do it up, sell high' mentality, thanks to the glut of TV programmes about it. If everyone is buying cheap to slap some magnolia on the walls and put in cheap, £2.99 per sq m beech effect laminate, then adds a £100k to the price for the trouble, where are all the traditional bargains for the FTB's?
I am over the moon house prices are falling. I can't stress enough how great a thing it is.I'm sorry for you if you borrowed more than you can afford, i'm really sorry if you'll lose your house because of it and i'm very sorry indeed if you have had a sudden reality check and now must live within your means like many of us on here do. But please, don't be bitter. We bit our tongues when, going to university, prices started to rise beyond our wildest imagination and we've had no choice to pay some b**tard BTL'ers mortgage ever since, if only to avoid the horrific levels of debt we would have had to sign up to to avoid it.I'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -
missbis - what an agry post!!!
just noticed your Savings towards house amount - £599/£40000
I think that reality check should be in your direction really if that's the progress you've made.
That time at university didn't give you any common sense instead of sounding off like you just have....
get your head down, work hard, have ambitions and anything is really possible - however cheesey that may sound it's a fact.
get out of people deserve it bla, bla, bla - just worry about yourself and what you need to achieve to get to where you want to go.
Mister chucky, I should change my sig once in a while to update I know, but to be honest, my lack of ambition or diretcion in life makes me so lazy I can't be bothered. WIth you knowing so much of my personal attributes, as some anonymous poster on an anonymous forum, I am sure you know what I mean ;-)
I'm not angry, far from it. Like I said, i'm over the moon that House Prices are falling.
And there's nowt wrong with having a dig at greedy, stupid people. That is human natureI'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -
