My hubby and I were talking about the name thing too yesterday. I think I'm at a disadvantage when it comes to comps because I have a VERY common surname! Are they picked by hand though or is it done by computer?

Anyway regarding the OP's Q, if they did just pick a name I'm sure they would be more likely to go for a more unusual name, yours eyes would just go to it in a list of boring common ones, I'm sure it would give you more chance. But having said that I hope that they are just done fairly and randomly so whatever your name we all have equal chance :-) I'm sure you will win stuff eventually it is all down to chance (and how many you enter!) good luck!

I just thought of an idea where a name can be attractive or eye catching when selecting a winner. Its by choosing a celebrity name.

lets say for example I use the name (Pamela Anderson - although i'm not a fan of hers). Ofcourse it wouuld be obvious that the person entering wouldn't be a celebrity but a coincidence that a person in the Anderson family has the name of Pamela.

hehe

now it will depend if the person choosing the winner likes Pamela Anderson or hates her :rotfl:

I don't have a common surname & I've been lucky enough to win loads - but then I see loads that I would love to win so therefore enter loads of comps!

I would never change my name for entering comps, although I know some Compers have slightly amended their dates of birth & claim typo if questioned about it (as they are worried about their personal details being 'out there'), but I use all my real info - would hate to lose out on a prize due to not telling the truth.
