What name brings luck and lots of wins?

I have a non english name (uncommon one) which doesn't seem to be famous in winning in prizedraws.

I am sure not all winners are selected by the computer but by people who look into a long list of names and choose one name.

As my name isn't common and doesn't seem to win in prize draws i'm thinking of changing it when entering competitions to well known always winning names. Maybe it brings luck?

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

If anything I would have thought that if it was a case of someone picking a name from a list, that the uncommon ones would stand out more

Also I have seen in some T&C's that they require proof of ID before you get your prize.

Your own personal choice at the end of the day tho :D

Hope you get some wins soon!

I'd think twice about using a different name if the prize is a holiday or a cheque. Also, I agree with Shellybee that an unusual name would stand out and maybe have a better chance of being picked.

I read a long time ago, when competitions were postal and winners were literally picked out of all entries sent, it was said that if you sent a brightly coloured postcard, it would be more likely to win, whether there was any truth in that I don't know

Keep going and enter as many as possible, hope you get a win soon.

Yes I'm aware that sometimes a proof of ID is requested but not in the majority of the competitions. Maybe for big prizes like cash and holidays. Most of the time I read in the winning forums here that people receive their prizes in the post and they don't know from where. It seems some companies are not bothered to contact the winner after selecting his/her name or request ID. They just send it !

knowing that IDs are sometimes requested, i'd like to hear from mse'rs who had been requested ID to claim their prize and what prize was it?

I would say that if you have a list of "Smiths" and one "Spzatosky" then chances are a smith is going to be pulled out of the hat more times than the Spatz' . even though it may be a different Smith each time.

  • Hiya, my real name is well weird and not at all English and I must admit that I did think about using another when I first started comping - so glad I didn't though! And it would be gutting to lose out on a prize - spesh a biggie! Keep at it and hope you win something soon! ;)

Before I ever came here I used to go to Loquax and they have winners lists on there a lot. I noticed people with 'different' sounding names that won all the time. I got really jealous and thought of changing my 'boring' name to something more exotic

...so I think it's swings and roundabouts hehe

Well I was a bit worried at first because my surname is Duff and I thought maybe companies would prefer someone winning their comps who didn't have a surname like that :rotfl:
