Own up I have given it a go - who else did?

£8.99 for 7.93grams of gold isn't too bad. ;) I'm certain I can find someone to give this to as a present, seeing as it comes in a gift box. By the way, the price of 9ct gold today is £ 4.48 per gram. So, even scrapped, this chain is worth more than £8.99.

Ziggy, how did you find that gold chain on there? I can't find things with a buy it now price. Ta.
In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?

How often do they have drops to £1 online?

as in per day? Not sure about online but on tv its about one per hour (or it was last year anyway)

if you meant when on the calander do they do them, its random.

Edited to say that if you are going for the £1 drops chances are so is half the world and his dog, if you are phoning it will ring then go silent if you don't get through to a recorded message. You will STILL be charged the £1.50 cost of the call!

Only interested online, not paying £1.50 a call for any bargains, lol.
  • I think generally the megadrops are on the TV, and not web-only things.

You can bid for a megadrop item online, but you have to be quick! I just got a car jump starter/air compressor/light for £1 plus the £7.99 postage, think I did well! :D

Items like mobile phones tend to go within a couple of seconds when megadrops which makes it very hard to get them online.

You can't place bids of £1.01 online on everything in the hope they'll be megadrops though, it will only accept your bid after the item 'megadrops' to £1 otherwise your bid won't be accepted. You just have to have fast fingers and a fast internet connection!

You do have to be picky though, there is an astonishing amount of tat on these channels, though there is the odd bargain or quality item buried amongst it!
Total debt as at Jul 2012: Too much!

Anyone for a gemstone globe? they used to go on bid-up tv for over a £1000 could not believe it, £5.99 in a market and I would pass them by!
That brings back some memories, looks so tacky but they did a good job of persuading some otherwise.
  • I still remember seeing a chap on one live bid up channel selling something and i flicked over on to their sister channel and he was doing a different "live" auction at the same time!

    ;)

I stopped watching them after that....

Yes I remember one chap selling the same item two days apart making exactly the same mistake in each preseentation. It was physical mistake not a verbal one so not a script issue.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

in an interview with METRO, peter simon said that on bid up tv, he could show a wooden fire poker and somebody would want it.

My problem with these channels is that at certain times of day it does tend to be "elderly relatives" that do most of the buying. I think that these TV channels exploit that fact and it is at these times that they seem to shift a lot of the tat.

Should BidupTV exercise a "duty of care" towards the elderly or "less mentally alert" amongst their viewers - or should that responsibility be down to the families of these people?
