Good lord, I'm astonished at 51 years' worth of use. I second Oblivion's suggestion that you should contact Morphy Richards with your news! They don't make 'em like they used to...
My personal favourite of the toasters that I've used in the past is the older version of the Tefal Avanti (new one looks like this now!)
I've got the Breville Lightning 4 slice toaster at the moment (about 2 years old) which isn't too bad but I've nothing to sing its praises over, it's just an average toaster which takes some tweaking to get the toasting right.
OP - would you not need a 4 slice? In our house the two of us need a 4 slice toaster; given that it's a couple of slices of toast each in the mornings at weekends...0 -
This is the one I have which I have had for about a year http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4229928/c_1/1%7Ccat_10198386%7CToasters%7C10198493/Trail/searchtext%3ETOASTER.htm, I thinks it's great and have had no problems with it.0

I'd like to know which ones don't leave breadcrumbs spread all over the tabletop..are there any that hold the crumbs inside until you actually empty it?0

Dualit - you can buy spare elements and the like from the manufacturer if they burn out. We have a 1965 one from when OH's parents got married. It's seen them through 3 children, a cafe business and probably 50,000 ham & cheese toasties! And you can still get the spares from them.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

Well going against the grain but I would recommend an Asda basic 'pacific' one.
I bought a 4 slice one 5 years ago for about £8 and it is still going strong, it has a removable crumb tray and an automatic stop button which I find useful.
It can also toast thick slices of bread and bagels, of course their products might have changed over the years but I am really impressed with it and it gets used regularly.0 -
I agree about the Warburtons bread issue, my current tefal doesnt fit it in properly ! Should be a test criteria in my opinion.
I had this toaster before that did fit Warbies, I dont think anything went wrong with it, I just got bored of it and bought a new one and gave it away.
