I'm confused, I never even knew you could subscribe to a thread :rotfl:

Sorry I'm being a pain, just never done it this way before, today I've been searching by thread start time to get them all posted in a day, is that what people do?

I have been thanking them all so that's something :D

Hi, I've been entering the comps for about a month now was using the comps ending list. Now I'm entering the ones that are posted that day but I was wondering if anyone keeps track of the competitions they enter and how they do it?

I was thinking about starting a spreadsheet document for it (would probably get too lazy after a couple of days but worth a try) but haven't a clue how to set it out. Does anyone do this?

I use a spreadsheet to keep myself organised (I am a complete control freak so anything else would seriously bother me!). I have a tab for each month and add all of the comps I want to enter to the relevant tab and then I enter the comps in date order.

Every few days I order the threads by time added and go through the comps that have been added since I last looked. I also use the thanks button to keep on track of things and also coz it is important to thank the OP - without bumping of course :D

Oh dear that just sounds confusing

I think I'll try this subscribing to the threads thing first off :) thanks for the advice everyone!

um.. are we getting rid of the comp ending threads? why is that? i find it really useful as whenever i search for anything it comes up as no matches or some random thread comes up

You don't need to search now, you can just sort the forum threads instead.

There good instructions on how to do this on post 448 in this thread.
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

Good luck, you will find the best way to suit you eventually. I only use the thanks button and that suits me fine, I find subscribing to threads slows me down a bit.
Thanks to everyone that posts :T:money:

I'd agree with that Laura, I tried it for about 5 minutes and although we have broadband we're a million miles from the exchange so things are a little tardy to say the least. I actually use the subscribe facility now for the ones that have a broken link or the comp site is down, that way I know I want to go back to it at some point.

Divadee - Thank you so much for sorting all the end dates, you have just saved my blood pressure! I was completely up to date until we went away last week and when I got back yesterday I thought I'd catch up by doing each day I was away but with limited time that was just a silly idea, now I can sort without doing all the e:2/9's and ED 2nd Sept's etc I've decided to forget catching up and start again from now doing them daily and just checking the date order ones when I am up together, you are brilliant!!

I really hope that people can stick to the format now, it's really not that hard, when I first posted one of my few comps I just looked to see what the majority did, read through the discussion threads, and the guide and followed the lead, I even wrote it down in words rather than numbers to remind me ie. Capital E, colon, space, two figure day, slash, two figure date..... easy as eating cake ;)

I was still all for the date ending threads before I went away as I used them as a quick fix to see if I'd missed any I fancied entering but coming back and reading all the chaos here, I say good riddance :o
That ain't working! That's the way to do it, money for nothing and TV's for free ;)
  • Just wanted to say thanks to all who are working hard tonight educating us Newbies with all your tips for searching. After reading through a few pages on this thread, I decided to have another look at VelvetGloves comping guide and I've learned a lot !!

Especially liked the Google Alert for picking up my name on competition pages (Thanks Chickaroonee). VelvetGlove - thanks, I now know what the green button means! I also like the Google search idea, E: 03/09 site: moneysavingexpert.com tip - it really works well.

And.....I just downloaded Roboform as well, it's great. My comping efforts are now a lot easier :T
You are all so helpful, this really is a great community and though I haven't won much yet, it's great fun trying.

Glad you're enjoying yourself stickybun9 :) After all that's what it's all about, have fun, spend some time having a bit of a laugh & maybe also get an adrenaline rush if you are lucky & posty pauses at your door to struggle getting a packet out of his sack for you :D

Stick with the positivity! Mum always said "Good things come to those that smile!"

Also, I reckon the Comping Guide is best served in little chunks or I could imagine it might be a bit overpowering to try to take it all in, in one go!

Have fun & welcome to our little Comping Corner of MSE :) Now you're in you will never leave *evil laughter* ;)
Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out
  • He he the Google Alerts thing sounded good for me, but unfortunately my name is also the name of a general in the Korean war, so any thing with "winner", "competition" etc. just brings up daily alerts of new historical snippets about him :D

Has anyone heard of the opinioniser website?
It is a scientific fact that your body will not absorb calories if you take it from another person's plate.
