Fantastically quick delivery, received mine on Wednesday after having ordered it late on Sunday night.

Just a quick question, does anyone know the Windows XP password to log on as the Main System Administrator? I know when you set up the pc for the first time you create a user account with Administrator privileges. But I would also like to log in as the Main System Administrator but am unable to do so as I don't know the password. Tried to unsuccessfully log in with a blank password as well, but no luck :(

Any help would be much appreciated :)

For anyone that might be interested, in regards to the problem I was having as logging in as the Main System Administrator (Which incidentally you would need to do if you ever need to run Recovery Console to correct a problem, hence the password needs to be known).

I have found out the following:

The default username is Administrator & the password should be null (blank) on a Dell PC running Windows XP (unless otherwise stated).

But as Dell uses something called Sysprep to preinstall Windows on its computers, sometimes the default password may be corrupt (as I was to find out in my case).

When you get to the login screen you press CTRL-ALT-DELETE twice to get the login box to appear where you can enter Administrator & your password. However I kept getting "Check your username/password error message" which led me to believe that the password must be corrupt.

To correct it I logged in with an account, which had administrator rights & changed the password of the Main System Administrator.

To do this go to Start/Run, type control userpasswords2 and click OK. Then under password for Administrators click "Reset Password" and then choose a new password or if you wish for it to be null (blank) then leave both boxes blank. Click OK, and then Apply.

I thought that had resolved my problem, however on trying to log in as the Main System Administrator with the name Administrator & my new Password, I got the following message "Unable to log you on because of an account restriction". I tried with a random password which gave a "Check your username/password error message". Which at least told me that I was originally entering in the correct password (the one I had previously changed it to).

I then found out that on Windows XP home you can only login as the Main System Administrator in safe mode. I was originally trying to login in normal mode. So this time I re-booted & kept pressing F8 to boot up in safe mode and from there I was able to login as the Main System Administrator with my password.

For anyone who has bought a PC with Windows XP on it from Dell (or from any other manufacturer for that matter) you may want to check that your Main System Administrator password is not corrupted. The quickest way to confirm this is once booted into safe mode you should be able to just click on the ADMINISTRATOR box & login without having to enter in a password (as the password by default should be blank). If you can do this, then you have nothing to worry about, although you may want to change your password to something personal. If however you are unable to login in safe mode by simply clicking on the ADMINISTRATOR box, then you may want to follow what I have outlined above to rectify the problem.

amancalledchip.Your dead right! My Computer only has Local Disk(3)on it.This molex thingy must connect the power to the Dvd.Looks simple enough for me to deal with but I leave it until Mon;Dell might respond by then. Incase anyone wonders,I have never used Dvd Rw before & spent most of the time getting updates/ & trying to transfer my E-Mail accounts etc. Put more simple I'm not very computer savvy yet.
    Thanks again.Irony

It can only be pushed on one way, it has the corners taken off two of the edges, so you cant push it on the wrong way.

Power the system down and push it on. Then reboot it.
If it doesnt show then, then you will have a prob that dell will have to sort.

All up and and running fine now.Spoke to Dell just in case I made a booby. We all knew the problem before I managed to get hold of Dell. Still, I mentioned that we should have a freephone no.(1/2 hour with their over helpfulness)& it should be 7days support. Beautiful screen.I'm happy now. Irony

If you read back, someone says they had 27,000, that seems quite low to me, but on rpoints a few people have done the test and their pcs crashed half way through!! Not Good!

Moo Juice... I did read the thread... but it seems the graphics score and processing score were not added together... I was wondering what the total score was...

I got a score of 27,798. No where near 45,000. Tried it on my PC at work got 2000! I also had to load a new dll to stop aquamark crashing before giving the result. This dll lives at http://www.forumdeluxx.de/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=13382&d=1124563439

could colinw clarify whther the 27k figure was the total aquamark score or cpu/grpahics score?
  • I got one of these and upgrade to XP pro and Ultra sharp monitor. Very please and just wanted to thank the OP.
