we've got a dyson DC11 all floors (one of the cylinder models) and i've got to admit it is one of the worst things i have ever had!! The suction on it is appaling, it wont pick up bits of fluff and absolutely refuses to pick up stray threads and dolls hairs!!! i've got two little ones under the age of three and as u can imagine i've got to use it quite often.
I've called up dyson on a number of occasions and they've been wonderful, sent out various bits and pieces but nothing seems to work, suction is still rubbish.
Sounds like the uprights are a much better deal.0 -
Another vote for Miele. Have had a S700 for three years now and it's been the best vacuum we've ever had. Tough as old boots as well. Since then we've replaced nearly all our appliances for Miele ones and are more than happy. As for customer service, when our Miele freezer started to play up after 2 years, Miele came out and fixed it for free even though it was six months out of warranty. Touch wood, no problems with anything else incidentally.0

I had to stop using my Dyson as it was too heavy when I got M.E., and have got a Sebo cylinder cleaner. I'm really pleased with it - light, not too loud (even the cats don't run away when I switch it on!) and works extremely well. I chose it partly because Good Housekeeping recommended it as a "Best Buy", and partly because a friend had the Sebo upright model and was very happy with it. I thought of getting the Miele Cat & Dog but the compact Sebo was cheaper at the time.
Btw I have still got the Dyson and use it occasionally, but it doesn't pick up the cat hair like it used to even though I make sure the filter is clean. I might buy it a new filter though, and see if that helps, as I'm quite fond of it and of course it's the only one my OH is happy to use....! :rotfl:0 -
ok so it seems like the sebo & miele cat & dog are on my wish lists at the moment, 2 questions:
1) any model numbers so i can search easier, and
2) can anyone recommend a cheap place to buy from?
Thanks in advanceNo one said it was gonna be easy!0 -
Miele are still coming tops for reliability in Which.
Everyone tends to have their favourites and Dyson has had a strong following.
Although Which do get a bit of criticism for some of their reports not being as good as reviews in dedicated magazines, they do get feedback on reliability and breakdowns from a lot of people, so I would tend to believe their reliability reports.
There are probably a lot of Dyson owners who love them and have never had a problem with them, but when parting with hard earned cash I'd rather go with the results of a large survey.
We've had a Henry, a Panasonic upright and a Miele Cat and Dog.
The Henry was great for heavy duty stuff - like picking up dust and rubble as someone said. Very robust.
The panasonic was lousy. An obvious design flay meant that after just a few weeks when the back was angled (i.e. you were using it) the belt would not stay on the drive wheel so the brushes would hardy turn.
Then got the Miele cat and dog and it has performed very well ever since. We did have a problem with the tool lid where the spring would occasionally fly off it you let it flip up unhindered - but on one occassion it broke the mounting peg at the hinge. Miele were very good about it even though it was out of warranty they paid to have it picked up, cleaned repaired and returned within a few days - very good service, and it's been fine ever since. I'd definatley go for a Milele again.
Oh, another thing Which say is that cylinders tend to be much more reliable than uprights.0 -

The Miele Cat & Dog cleaner is a great cleaner, bought one twelve months ago from these people http://www.tribaluk.com/ these where the cheapest I could find anywhere, ordered it on the Friday pm, cleaner was delivered Tuesday morning, Model Number TT-5000 is the one you want.

Yes, Miele Cat & Dog . Powerful 'turbo' brushes see off the pooch hairs-our first vac in many to do so although no experience of Dyson. Preferred by 'Which' for pet coated carpets.0

Just managed to buy a Miele Cat and Dog at a Robert Dyas store for £99.99 plus a £5 voucher to spend next time. Check with your local store to see if they have them as not all stores stock them.(".)0
