Gaming PC (£2700)

Options
I'm looking to cut a few corners on a PC that I configured online. The total cost for the following is £2700.

CoolerMaster Cosmos S Gaming Tower Case
CoolerMaster Real Power PRO 1000W Modular PSU
Windows Vista 64bit Premium
Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Q9650 @ 3.00GHz
Asus P5N-T Deluxe nForce 780i SLI Mainboard
8GB (4x2GB) PC6400 DDR2/800 (Corsair XMS2 w/Heat Spreader)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX280 1GB
NVIDIA GeForce GTX280 1GB

300GB Gaming Western Digital VelociRaptor Sata-II 10,000RPM
64 GB 2.5 inch SATA Gaming MLC Solid State Disk

LG GGW-H20L 6X INTERNAL BLU-RAY DISC REWRITER
LiteOn LH-20A1H 20X DL DISC REWRITER

Creative Labs SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio 24-BIT PCI Sound Card

(no monitor, got one already)

Razer Deathadder Mouse
Razer Mousemat
Razer Tarantula Keyboard

The PC is mainly used for Gaming & I'll be using a 27" Dell TFT (1900x1200).
I could do with saving £200-300.
Anyone got any thoughs on SLI, Solid state memory, what about Casing, has it got to be an expensive case to make the most of all this stuff??

PS Building this myself is a NO NO! :)

Thanks

  • £2700 is a lot of money for a PC IMO. I play online games everyday on a system I built for £800 (still a kid at 60 yo LOL). My PC performs as well as any of the other gamers, and I consistently get high scores.

Unless your system has to be cutting edge I would expect a top notch gaming PC to cost maybe £1200-£1400 max.

It will be out of date next month - use a ps3 instead.

    I'd have to agree.

In a few years, unlike your £2700 PC, the PS3 will still be playing the latest games.

Marty the PS3 wasn't even around when I bought the 3 year old pc I'm using at the moment and it CAN play the latest games, just like your/my PS3 :)

Banger9365 Thanks for the links, CCLOnline is one of the companies I've shortlisted, nice to see they will build for you as there's no way I could do that.

x2o Thanks for the Scan link :) Incidentally all those who think three grand is a lot to spend on a PC should click on the Scan Great White picure link :D
Still unsure about solid state memory, I guess getting a normal hard drive combined with cheap casing will save me the £300 :)

    Thanks everyone

  • That's completely overkill and an absolute shocking amount of money to spend!

GTX 280's aren't the best cards, the 4870's as posted previously are much better cards. Go quadcore, 4GB of RAM, Samsung Spinpoint 1TB hd's and a good case with 120mm yate loon fans.

In the morning I'll post up a spec of a computer that will be no more than £1,700 with a 24" monitor and a good sound system that will blow that computer out of the water.

SLI is good, but a lot of games don't support it. Not to mention the difficulty in cooling it introduces. SSD you can ignore because of their limited lifespan and comparative read/write speeds.

    Well fair enough.

I'm willing to bet your old PC didn't cost £300 though. ;)

Not to mention the PC not being able to display graphics in the detail that the PS3 can..
