But play.com pay the customs charges for you! Although it doesn't say clearly on the website, for orders over £18 they have already prepayed the customs amount to HM...
Since When? ..... And where do they state this? ..... albeit not clearly?

    Delivery/title/risk

    32. If your delivery address is outside of Jersey, you may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once a shipment reaches your country. Any such additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you. You should note that customs policies vary widely from country to country; Play.com advises each customer to contact their local customs office for further information.

    33. Please note that when shipping products internationally, you should be aware that cross-border shipments are subject to opening and inspection by customs authorities.

Just had a look at a jiffy bag that contained a DVD I bought from Play for £24.99 and it says on the label "IMPORT VAT PRE-PAID". Play, HMV and Sainsburys (and I presume Tesco Jersey) all prepay the import tax so you won't get charged.

if im ordering more than £18 from the online stores that come from jersey etc, i do separate orders as i dont want to end up paying duty on items ..
Play send their items separately regardless, so you don't need to worry about it ;) (although I'm not sure about the others ).
