Why are we being so mean to each other?

That isn't what is being said, obviously there has to be a degree of understanding that emotions /moods do not come across in writing as they would if you could see that persons face and use the facial expressions/body language as a guideSo everyone else has to work out what a person is actually trying to say because its not what they type.
I can see why people feel unwelcome.

I guess to some extent you could be right, but this is not intentional, like traf says in person you can judge better what people mean with what they say, its terribly hard to do that with the written word, especially if you dont know the person thats writing, If you recieved a letter from a friend you would know how that persons mind works and as such be able to judge what they meant when they wrote something, that obviously is'nt possible on here until you get to get a feel for people better, the posts would be rather long winded if everytime someone put some thing they then added and by that i mean this and not that, do you see what i mean.
but at the end of the day, no one wants you to feel unwelcome, surely you can see this by the amount of time and effort that we're putting in to respond to you to make you feel more welcome and understand the way we are etc.
some of the boards are for more serious issues and as such there are bound to be a conflict of interests etc, however the arms is always somewhere you can come for some fun and light hearted humour.
Don't be a stranger, come and join us, you'll soon see we all take the micheal occasionally out of each other but it genuinely is all in jest ;D :-*Nobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission

There are so many different personalities that some are bound to clash at some point.
It's amazing how people interpret things.
The posters who know each other do have a good old banter, but I think that (not seperating them out) some of the newbies can be offended by the comments or take them personally.
... and lets face it, if all questions were answered in a factual, robotic way then the boards would be dull!
I have noticed that people should understand that newbies do and will always post comments that have been done before, until they know about the search facility. A few pointers as to how to use the search facility and perhaps links to the other posts may be helpful - some of the comments I have seen aimed towards newbies have been really horrid and uncalled for.
We ain't all bad
Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you![/SIZE]0 -
It's not just newbies, I have seen an 'oldie' reduced to tears with nasty comments, I too have had one person in particular make really rude comments to a couple of my postings.
She is actually a newbie herself!
One of her first ones was really nasty to me and someone else who she named, which I just thought how rude and ignored, (I am thankfully not upset easily) but her unpleasantness is really getting on my nerves now.
Incedentally, I have yet to see her put up a useful post.......
I also put a posting for a cheap website who a couple of people said was really useful, then someone accused me of owning the site (I wish) and told me to remove my post and put it on the referrers board! And no, no one had died and made him moderator!
I do have to say though that a lot, and I mean a lot of people leapt to my defence which was really appreciated.
There are a lot more nice people on here than nasty.Waddle you do eh?0 -
The best way is just to ignore it...
There's another board I post on regularly and the other day someone posted something really quite bitchy. Must admit, I had a bit of a cry over it but that was more to being down about something else. Normally I would just ignore it.0 -
And did you report it ........especially the oldie who reduced your friend to tears ???......................did anything happen ???It's not just newbies, I have seen an 'oldie' reduced to tears with nasty comments, I too have had one person in particular make really rude comments to a couple of my postings.

Trouble in that way isn't usually tolerated :-/0 -

Expertly handled as usual.Waddle you do eh?0 -

Prehaps you should check the post above yours as well
I think you should read the post again. It wasn't an oldie who reduced someone to tears, it WAS the oldie who was in tears.
It was sorted as Greenstuff said ,you can't stop everything happening ,after all there are real people at the keyboards but we have abuse control just in case.0 -
Yes, there you go again, I was posting at the same time so difficult to read what was posted at the same time. I apologise for pointing out what Greenstuff also pointed out and for editing my post now that you have posted again.0
