Zoom Airlines is in administration: How to get your money back

Hope this offers some hope to some of you.
I am currently in the same situation with Sky Bargains, we booked flights to Turkey in November 2007 due to depart 21st July this year, three weeks before we flew we had a call from Sky Bargains advising us the flight was no longer running and we would have to book new ones!!!!!! My friend sorted out the new booking and paid again for the flights for us all on the understanding that Sky would put a refund through for the original flights.
21st July our departure date her credit card bill arrives no refund, so she called Sky Bargains and was advised that a manager would call back, well no call was received before we got on our new flights, we thought we will deal with it when we get back.
Whilst on holiday we get a call from another friend who was due to fly out and join us saying that ABTA had called and advised that Sky Bargains had gone under, we did not know if we had flights back or what was going on I spent quite a bit of time trying to sort this with no real answers from anyone, (my mobile bill has just come in and it's £141 normally £20 a month.)
Thankfully we were ok with our flights home and all was ok apart from obviously we were out of pocket for the original flights.
So far I have managed to get a charge back from my Barclays visa debit card for £480.00 the largest part of the payment but there is a chance that they could take this money back I won't know until end of November
My Barclays credit card £190.00 which I paid the deposit for the flights on I have yet to hear from them.
I would advise anyone if you are experiencing difficulties to check the following:-
1, House hold insurance althought we were not covered for the flights we have legal protection included who said they would consider taking on the claim.
2. CSMA members I am sure you have the same legal protection
3. I also spoke with the FOS who advised me where to send my letters to and said they would also write on my behalf http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm
So there is hope out there
Good luck everyone.0 -
I booked my Fly Zoom flight with a Visa Electron card. I have looked up the information posted by Danoz and contacted my bank. I am now on the phone to the lady who is processing my claim! They have found my transaction through their system, went through all the forms online and was told that if i need to find out the process i could go into my branch and speak to the MANAGER of the branch who has also been sent a copy of the claim.
Thank's Danoz I will hopefully wait and see if i get a refund.
Another thing, I directed them to the Visa website, which they had a good read through and thanked me. :j0 -
We flew back with British Airways JFK to Heathrow on Monday only 15 hours later than our scheduled Zoom flight and at a similar price. I think we were very lucky. I tried Virgin first, but their availability for Zoom passengers was very limited.
We have claimed back our Zoom fares from our VISA card company, but is it possible to claim for incidental/consequential costs such as extra hotel and meal costs caused by the delayed return? Is this covered by either travel insurance (under delayed departure cover, for example) or can it be claimed from VISA?0 -
i also bought tickets with my natwest maestro card and was very encouraged by the things people were saying on here - unfortunately i'm in canada so i phoned natwest telephone banking to try and initiate a meastro chargeback and they totally refused to help claiming that this policy doesnt exist etc. I referred to the mastercard policy and the 'superviser' i was speaking too claimed not to be able to find that online - even when i gave her the specific address to the pdf file. she then fobbed me off saying i should e-mail and the e-mail address is on the contact us page of their website - so after the phonecall i went there and i cant find an email address! is there anything i can do or do i just have to wait til i'm back in england to sort this out? i do get back within the 120 day period i just could really really do with some money back asap and want to get the ball rolling now. any suggestions? thanks.0

Hey No problem!
What bank are you with abbey yeah? Just that what you described didn't happen to me, no forms to fill out or anything, they just said ok we will forward this over to a team to investigate and said nothing more :S0 -
Ref: payment via Abbey visa debit card.
I have 'phoned the Visa Dispute team again today, and they are sending out chargeback forms for me to complete.
Worried though, as they've told me I may not receive them for 2/3 weeks!
Could someone please clarify things for me.....is the 120 days limit for claiming from the date of payment for the tickets, or from the date that Zoom stopped trading?0 -

If you paid by credit card, then you should claim for the new costs (replacement flight, consequential costs etc), but not the cost of the original flight, as these new costs were incurred as a result of a joint breach of contract by your card issuer and Zoom. If you paid by debit card, then I believe you have no legal right to a refund except for the transaction amount of the original flight according to the Visa or MasterCard/Maestro policies.0 -
Well Zoom Airlines have certainly annoyed me!!!
I was due to fly back from Halifax, Nova Scotia last Thursday at 11pm and the company went bankrupt earlier that day
I then spent about 3 hours talking to my Mum in the UK trying to book alternative flights but I couldn't do this. I then flew at 10pm from Halifax to Toronto with Canadian Airlines which cost £300. When I arrived in Toronto I waited 15 hours and in that time my Mum spent 5 hours trying to find a flight back to the UK for me.
Eventually my Mum paid £1000 to BA for a flight back to London Heathrow and I then managed to get a train from London to Manchester with a free first class upgrade (because the train manager felt sorry for me). All in all my journey took me exactly 2 days.
Although my holiday was fantastic it has been slightly ruined by the fact that I now owe my Mum £1300, plus Orange Mobile have just informed me that my phone bill will be extremely high next month
I really appreciate everything that BA and Canadian Airlines did for me and I am even happier to hear about Chargeback, as I know at 4am on Friday morning I emailed Martin Lewis with a plea of how I get my money back.
I wanted to get clarification regarding my insurance as they are telling me that they will not cover, but I have checked it with a lawyer who says that actually their wording in the small print says that actually they will cover. Do they have a right to change it?
Thanks from a very tired and weary traveller0 -
I booked 2 return flights Gat - New York in Feb 2008 with Zoom costing £571.14 with my Nat West Maestro Debit card for travel on Sept 16th 2008..... What hope have I in getting my money back now? Is there anything that I can do. Any suggestions are very, very welcome.
I liked the e-mail that has just arrived from Zoom saying I am due to travel with them in two weeks time and they are giving me help with the travel arrangements....!!!!
thanks Davep.0
